Keep an eye on Aaron Nesmith, freshman from Vandy.

Strengths
+ Great athlete with a developed 6'6" frame (213lbs, 6'10" Wingspan)
+ Has some creation ability and passing feel--fluid changing direction in the lane, has hit some step back and off the bounce 3's
+ Good rebounder for size (13.7% REB%)
+ Good shooting splits (36% 3PT, 85% FT), high level shooter in HS
+ Quick feet and active hands on ball. Athleticism to make weakside and chasedown blocks
+ Plays with a unique energy and passion for the game. Makes hustle / winning plays

Weaknesses
- Technique on D is not always there, skilled scorers have had success getting him out of his stance w/ hesitations and shot fakes (K. Porter Jr made him look bad a few times vs USC)
- Struggles w/ ball screens at times. I think this largely coaching. Often doesn't get into the ball / opposite hip of handler and prepare for the screen
- Not always alert off the ball, zones out at times (common for freshman)
- Been mainly an at rim or 3 type player. Not necessarily a problem, but mid range touch is just another indicator to look at to figure out a kids overall skill level. Very small sample so far though.

Comes off the bench and plays a fairly small role (16.6% USG), so he's probably more of a 2020 kid. But with Darius Garland out for the year and coming on more as of late, there's a chance he has a strong conference + tournament run and declares this year.

I think that's just a bit of an exaggeration. I'm no @Fez Von Savage lol

Kidding aside, do I have a tendency get excited about fringe prospects?...sure. But I think any person that watches as many prospects as I do run into the same "problem".

Guys like P.J. Dozier and Kadeem Allen sure haven't worked out...but in a weird way, I kinda feel validated that both of those guys have been in the Celtics organization at one point--PJ currently, Kadeem drafted in the 2nd round in 17.

And it's not like I haven't liked a fair share of the top prospects the last few years. But even if I like them, I'm not going to ignore their flaws. I've talked about this before, but even if I think I kid will succeed in the league, I still like to find reasons and create theories on why that kid may fail.

Gives me something for me to look back on in 3-5 years...

For me, if I think a dude is legit im gonna ride with them. Still have a lot of hope in Chandler Hutchison, but he needs a better situation than Chicago.

And that's fine. It's just a different way to look at prospects and the draft overall.

And it's funny that you bring up Chandler. I'm also selfishly happy when guys I don't like get drafted by historically bad drafting teams...haha

Theyve been playing without Tillie who was a better player then Hachimura last season. If they had him all season, they would've entered the tournament undefeated.

Cant wait for him to return from injury. Hes a great sleeper IMO. He has such an advanced skillset and smoothness to his game.

Plus, Gonzaga bigs are building a good track record as of late.

Yeah, pretty much all mock drafts are worthless at this stage. I hardly pay attention to them until around March Madness as that often makes or breaks college players draft status. Sure there are those that are no brainers, but even a guy like Zion can slip even though from what I have seen, he is the real deal.

I watched him live and am really high on him. He can do everything. High BBIQ.
 
Culver vs Barrett was a fun matchup.

Never been a fan of RJ. Clunky, can't shoot off the dribble and isn't very quick. Handle isn't great either. His alpha personality, strength and aggressiveness are going to be appealing to bad teams at the top of the draft that are looking for potential primary creators though.

As far as Culver goes, kinda reminds me of Alec Burks. Not as quick, but better defensively...probably has the better frame to put weight on, but very similar otherwise. Both quite kids, ranked outside the top 100 as seniors, questionable shot mechanics...

Barrett will go higher, but I like Culver more.

He reminds me of a more athletic Caris leVert with more top-end potential.

That's just the go-to for a lot of people that are high on him...

And if I'd compare someone to Caris in this draft, it'd be Romeo Langford, at least stylistically...

Romeo and RJ are both better athletes though.

Caris is a much better passer than Langford and Romeo is a much better shooter than Caris. Romeo is much smoother too.

I'll give you Romeo being a little smoother than Caris. When you compare him Caris to RJ though, I think the two are worlds apart...especially as far as fluidity shooting off the dribble.

Romeo a much better shooter than Caris? Romeo has never been a shooter and is shooting poorly so far. Caris also developed into the passer he is now. Maybe Langford never gets to that level, but I think it's too early to tell on that.

Romeo has struggled at Indiana but was known as a shooter in HS.

Barrett and Caris both are the same size, has the same shooting ability, there defense is inconsistent but have flashes of being good, and both can be a secondary creator as a big SG or SF.

Meh, I read it a couple places. Thought he was just slumping. Who would you compare RJ to then? I think a more athletic LeVert is pretty accurate.
 
We're not quite bad enough to get in the Lottery to have a chance at some of these talents....but no where near good enough to contend.

Not sure there's a good comp out there.

All I know is he struggles to create any sort of separation vs legit athletes and for a kid with a shaky jumper and no middle game, that worries me.

Luka is 6'8" 230 with some of the best pull-up and step back footwork in the NBA at 19...his handle is also much more advanced than RJ's. The level craft in their games overall is just not comparable imo.

RJ scores largely through physical advantages which I don't see standing out at that next level, besides maybe his strength (for his size).
