What about Jalen Johnson? Phenomenal upside and a guy who probably could help immediately but major character concerns. Dropping in the early mocks. Wild card of this draft right now.

Count UCLA coach Mick Cronin as another Duarte backer calling him a ready made NBA SG, a "tremendous player" and the best defensive guard in college ball.

He made a beautiful steal last night. Leaped up and curled his hand around it and brought it down. There are times I wish he would try to take the game over a little bit more. Saw him him pass up one good shot last night to make a pass that got stolen.

My Duck fan is absolutely showing, but I LOVE Duarte in this class -- especially given that he's probably not a lotto pick unless he tests off the charts. He's smooth, he's got plenty good enough handle, he creates for others, he's long, he can shoot it from all over, he's a gritty defender, he's smart, has made a lot of plays in clutch time. Aside from not being a rocked up 6'9 or being able to jump out of the gym, I don't know what's not to like about him. If we move CJ or Trent I'd LOVE for him to be their replacement.

Apparently I'm not the only one...

Watched a few of his games over the last couple weeks and yeah I think he's got a great chance to be a plus rotation guy.

Really smooth shotmaker off the bounce. Has the side step 3 down. Knows how the relocate off the ball. Active and smart team defender.

Wasnt sure what I was going to see passing wise as that looked pretty shaky statistically and although he's not a guy who's going to handle in ball screens for you, he reads the game pretty well. Has some weird mishandles at times and doesn't always locate or put the right touch on his passes, but I mostly like the decisions he makes on the floor.

Yeah he's old and the physical tools aren't overwhelming, but he makes good use of the length he does have and has a nice level of ranginess and flexibility to him.

Definitely a fan.

Cade Cunningham is looking really special.

Liked him from Day 1. In fact, when we were stinking up the joint with a string of losses, IIRC, there were some CC references in there.

Cameron Krutwig.

The cerebral assassin.

Add him to the UFA target list with Garza and Dickinson :cowboy:

I think Garza's going to find a niche with someone. Might not get drafted, but I think he'll stick. His ability at his size to shoot with deep range and release quickly will Trump his defensive liabilities. There are enough defensive-challenged bigs in the NBA that don't shoot it as well as he does, so I expect him to find a roster spot somewhere.

Is there any way we can get into mid 20’s to late first round to get Jalen Johnson if he slips that far? Seeing Nassir’s development after slipping to us on draft night and seeing Michael Porter Jr’s success after slipping farther than where he was projected makes me really want to go find a guy like that in this draft.

Jalen Johnson still has that leaving-Duke-early thing over his head (non-issue for me) which could make him slip along with the whole thing with him transferring in his senior year. But he’s a solid 6’8, looks big/fast enough to guard both forward positions and is athletic enough to play defense at an elite level. I have trust in our developmental system—in Portland, I would have almost no doubt that he’ll develop a 3 point shot.

Nassir/Johnson at the forward spots for the future.

NBAdraft.net has Kispert in the lottery now

I noticed that. Watching late tourney games (didn't watch any college hoops to speak of this year), I thought he looked interesting as a late 1st round sleeper. Then I checked NBAdraft.net, to see where they ranked players I might now recognize, and my gut feeling that the quality of this year's draft class is greatly overrated was suddenly magnified. Top-10 for an energy/role player??

I didn't like giving up this year's pick in the supposedly loaded class (RoCo trade), but I'm feeling better about that now.

Terrence Clarke, a projected first/early 2nd, was just killed in a car accident in California.

RIP

Sounds like he was speeding and ran a red light. Damn life is so precious.

If that's the case, my concern is entirely the well-being of whomever was going through the intersection legally.

I would love to get Jalen Johnson. He would be such a great fit next to Little. I think it will take at least top 15 pick to get him. As we get closer and closer to the draft, teams will ignore his decision to leave early and look at his potential and ability to play in a role right away

Who is available in the #12-14 range. That is looking more viable by the day.

Jalen Johnson, Kisert, Kai Jones, Ziare Williams, Wagner, Josh giddey, and Usman Garuba. So a good draft to be in that range to get a good wing

  • Trade CJ for un upgrade at PF.
  • Re-sign Powell
  • DO NOT UNDER ANY FREAKING CIRCUMSTANCES re-sign Melo.
  • Draft a long/lengthy talented wing
  • Hire a new coach....

....and watch this team start to do things.

Amen. I really like the idea of trading CJ for Harris. I bet we could also get a 1st too
