Game Thread 2022-23 Game #34 - BLAZERS VS HORNETS - DECEMBER 26, 2022 - MONDAY - 7:00 PM (PDT) ROOT

Some say it’s because he’s still making 5 million a year to enjoy himself.

You do realize he'd still get paid that if he coached, right?

This has been completely not enjoyable. The second half has plenty of room for improvement.

this is not how you should play bball

chauncey should ask himself why team plays with no urgency, effort and excitement

Didn't say anything even relating to Nurk. Just comparing guards letting people blow by them by design to funnel to Gobert versus our guards just doing it...because.
This whole discussion began because I asked “What happened to Nurk’s rim protection?” I guess you shouldn’t join the conversation if you don’t know what is being discussed.

well, most of the time the first game home after a long road trip is a ragged performance. This is ragged on steroids

but more than that is the team just looks flat and uninspired. Jet-lagged and asleep

Are the Hornets a dumpster fire of a team? Hayward and Ball have been hurt most of the season. Healthy, they are playoff caliber.

Hayward has been hurt most of his career. Good point, as of late, not many teams are dumpster fires....against the Blazers.

I don’t think you made the point you think you did. He is enjoying his life and family without working. Any job would have to be perfect if it was me?

exactly. our defense is designed to meet guards at the level. but our guards do such a terrible job navigating screens that it's an endless parade of opponents driving at nurk while he scrambles to get back to the rim.

I bet you anything Dame is "worried". He can read the writing on the wall. He looks miserable out there to me.

Probably. Not like Chauncey is coaching defense.

Stotts records after 33 games (of which he had zero season where Dame missed 12 games in that stretch):

19-14
14-19
19-14
17-16
13-20
13-20
26-7
26-7
18-15

Take away the two years of 26-7, which had a significantly better roster AND a much younger and healthy Damian, and Stotts had an average of 16 wins and 17 losses.

I was simply saying it doesn't make a difference whether it is by design or not. Our guards are getting blown by. And when that happens, now Nurk is having to guard 2 players at once. That is very tough to do. Gobert is the outlier. Not many centers, put in that situation over and over, can cover that.

I guess you should look at the bigger picture before continuing the conversation if you don't really understand what is being discussed.

Not worried. No one should be. It's December.
When will you be worried if the poor play continues? Do you think we have a switch we can flip in March? If we went to Finals last year, I’d agree with giving them the benefit of the doubt. But this team has proven nothing.

Hayward has played 70+ in 7 seasons and 66 in the 2011-12 66 game season.

If he's such a great coach, a team would've hired him. Hell, he interviewed for the Lakers, *twice* and they hired a guy who had zero head coaching experience.

He's not a good coach.

You seem to have missed the question
It was “could Stotts do better with THIS ROSTER”
Nobody said anything about any other rosters and by the way a number of them were not just worse but much much worse and now you want to take away the good one with it.
Whatever bro.

Hayward has played 70+ in 7 seasons and 66 in the 2011-12 66 game season.

And not been 100% much of that time. He's played over 52 games once in the last 6 seasons. Some of those were shortened seasons, but he hasn't been fully healthy in a long time.

We were 26-7 TWICE? That can’t be true.

And he is healthy NOW which was my point.

Dame 1-8 and decides a pull up 35'er on the break is the best shot for the team? Okay.....just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Especially when Grant is on FIRE!!!
