that guy is kind of a clown. how many wins would stotts get with Damian being a shell of himself and then missing 53 games?

How many games would Stotts win having to rely on Little, Winslow, Sharpe and Eubanks as your backups? Especially with Little missing games and Winslow barely even playing.

And then you have 1 player on the roster over 6'9"

It's kind of ironic that there is only 2 players on the team who has a chance at playing 80 games this year, and one is a 19 year old rookie that had no college experience.

It can be true that Billups has been a bad choice as the coach and also be true that Stotts wouldn't be a better choice and needed to go. I would bet the chances of him ever coaching in the league again are slim.

Sure Stotts needed to go and he needed to be gone long before he left

the problem was what came after:

I really like how Sharpe is playing. Actually, even though the team is getting their asses handed to them, I like how they're playing. Same with last year. Much more energy and movement (just not nearly as much scoring).
Give me boring wins all day.

At the beginning of games they usually show both coaches in prep.
They usually show win loss percentage for the opposing coach. They used to do this for Stotts as well.
They never show Chauncey's win loss percentage. They just say second year and then post that he was the 2004 finals MVP.
At this rate it would take three 50+ win seasons to get above that .500 winning percentage.
Maybe next year?

Your math is a little off. He's 41 games under .500. 3 seasons of 52 wins would put his record 17 games above .500.

Beg to differ. Stotts would have won more games in Nov, Dec, and Jan. They would have been in better position and they would have picked up a center at the deadline. They would be playing for the 6-8th spot right now.
I understand they still would not have been a true contender.

With this roster? Not likely

By "This Roster" I assume you are talking about the current one. Not the roster I made reference to.
I agree.

No, the roster at the start of the season which had an undersized guard in his first year as a full starter, an undersized starting, backup and backup sf, no backup C, no decent backup PF, no backup PG, and several players under 23 getting minutes.

I will just agree to disagree on this. My feeling here is Stotts would have gotten more out of that roster and he would have won more games. That would have put them in a position to make a push for the playoffs. The upper management would have been forced to do more at the trade deadline and they would not be trying to lose.

As pointed out in that twitter thread, Stotts had a significantly better winning percentage in games with Dame in comparison to Billups when he had Dame. So Dame being out for a lot of games is clearly not the main cause. It should also be noted that Billups has had Dame in his prime, where Stotts started with rookie Dame, which I believe was the only season he had a negative W/L split with Dame playing.

Both coaches dealt with medicore rosters. Stotts probably had slightly better benches. Billups arguably had better starters around Dame than Stotts did (after LMA left).

I think it's almost certain if Stotts wants to coach in the league, he will have plenty of opportunities. Will it be as a head coach? Unsure.

Gee, could it be the roster?

Gee, could it be the roster?

Which one? The WCF roster with Harkless, Aminu, and Kanter starting (who are all out of the league)?

Like I said, both have had marginal rosters. Neither should be expected to produce a contender with the rosters given. The difference in results has been surprising though.
