Melo

* had a .073 winshare/48; that was 11th on the team
* had a -1.5 BPM; that was 9th on the team
* among rotation players (including Little) he ranked 11th on the team in TS%, but was 3rd on the team in FGA & Usage. That's fucked up

* then, there is on/off:

playoffs were even worse:

***************************************

if you're thinking that maybe his offense offset his bad defense:

View attachment 39431

that last box is differentials...he was pretty much a negative across the board

and if you're wondering if he helped in clutch-time:

View attachment 39432

those are pretty bad numbers

maybe it's helpful to compare him to another familiar player signed for a vet minimum:

Thank you for the reminder of how bad he was; Olshey, are you reading this?

It'll be interesting to see how Brandon Clarke n JJJr go this year for the Grizz. They are spoiled with the amount of great young talent there, but there is a bit of cross-over too where they may need to make some room.
I'd love to get Brandon Clarke somehow, not sure how, but he's a great young player - tough, takes smart high % shots, is athletic, runs hard, etc - a bit of throwback to the big man mould of old, but at 6'8" and 215 he's a great mix of everything we need imo.

if we can get him or not is another thing, but im hoping to see good things from him wherever he is.

whoever mentioned Dillon Brooks is right too, that kid gonna have a year too.

First of all, Melo was actually a horrific rebounder this year. He averaged less than CJ and Dame. That’s embarrassing and something you shouldn’t use as your argument. He averaged 13 point. You’re right he either will us back into the game, or kill us with terrible shots. That just on the offensive side of the ball. The comment above me is right, yes dame and cj are terrible defenders but that’s more the reason why literally everyone else need to be good defenders. This is why I want to trade CJ for someone like Simmons and put Powell at SG. At that point then we can talk about bringing back Melo

Im in agreement that CJ must be traded and for a forward, Powell re-signed, then we consider Melo and Kanter.

Melo and Kanter can’t be on this team for us to be a serious playoff team. Defense matters

Then I guess you’d equally suggest that both players hang it up? On a stronger defensive team they might fit?

I’m saying with a new coach that is willing to spend some time in practices on defense, a coach creative enough on offense to draw up more than a high pick and roll….and a trade of CJ for a player that creates havoc at the defensive end - a Melo and a Kanter would add the veteran leadership and cheap talent off the bench (and in practices) to build a “team.” Portland won in 1977 because of a very good coach, a stingy defender (Hollins & Lucas) a “motion offense” that was anything but stagnant, and a group of bench players that formed one of the best examples in “teamwork” I’ve ever seen. The James Worthy, Michael Cooper era Laker teams were pretty good at team basketball.

Perhaps we do give a serious look at the packages that might be had if we traded Dame…but I don’t want to even contemplate a rebuild with OLSHEY at the helm - yikes!

Rui Hachimura will become an All Star
If that happens, the Wiz are going to be crazy good, especially if Bryant comes back healthy.

BTW, those are two that I wouldn't mind taking a chance on as a return in a CJ deal. Obviously it would require a third team as there's no reason the Wiz would want CJ.

Stewart from Detroit. Ben Wallace has been working with Isaiah.

That was me talking about Brooks. I love that kids fire!

I see no reason why Kanter can't be on the team. You need 3 bigs to survive the season. Rebounding also matters. 5 million for a guy who averaged 11 rebounds a game can be on my bench. Granted he should not be starting, and he may not play much in the playoffs, but we still have to get there first. It is a long season.

Wow, ok well no I wouldn’t do that. I’d do CJ for him plus more from Memphis. Brooks plus to get CJ not the other way around.
There is no way Memphis trades Brooks for CJ and some. He's your proto typical 2/3 that plays both ends really well, with fire, at a young age. He's 6'6" and would complement Dame very well as his strength is off the ball on O and guards straight up in your face.

CJ in terms of overall impact is about what I project from Brooks on the high end. I would much rather trade CJ for Simmons than Brooks if that is the choice. I also wouldn’t trade CJ for Brooks straight across thats a mistake.

Brooks 25 years old, 6'7", #3 weapon most of the time early now #2.
Thats cool, I like Brooks a lot and see him being a better fit than CJ. I like his overall game and he does have the "Eye of the Tiger"
CJ cant guard the likes of Booker, Brooks can.

What were his rpg coming off the bench? Could we find someone who plays some D that can give us close to those numbers?

if we miss on Simmons, I’m down to pursue Brooks. I don’t think Memphis really has need for CJ is the issue and I do think CJ is more valuable than Brooks. Further to match salaries we for sure have to get more back. Get another decent piece and I’m into it. Myles Turner is my secondary target and Brooks is more on a Tier 3 target for me with Jerami Grant due to them likely being unavailable. I also think as of today CJ is the vastly better player. The question is will Brooks exceed that? I believe he may. He definitely has the fire. Point is I’m not opposed to Brooks for CJ, but I do feel Memphis would need to sweeten it with a role player type to match salaries and risk.

Salaries are way off for sure.

about 9 points and 9 rebounds as a reserve. Per36, that was 17 & 17. As a starter, per36 he was about 15.5 & 15.5

Anfernee Simons.

Billups is going to be huge for his development.

To add to this with the Brooks hire:

"When I first got the news, it was tough. Scotty was great. This is my second coach I've played for and even when I talked to him afterwards, [I said] how grateful I was towards him. He helped change my game and evolved my game to what it is now," Beal said from Las Vegas.”
