Can Jalen Smith play center?

I mean size wise he's there, but I don't know anything about him defensively.

would you give a full MLE to Bamba/Smith/Bagley? I really liked the idea of Smith earlier but question how much he would impact winning. Just watching the playoffs, you can see how much impact veterans provide. Someone like Tucker who I would usually stay far away from does so much on the floor that goes unnoticed. These yougins aren't doing anything from the intangible perspective.

Just once, I'd like to do a 180 on our standard FA strategy.

I like the idea of Bagley. He went from one dumpster fire to another.

Most of his minutes came at center this past season

If it's a short enough deal, why not? I don't expect it to be longer than 3 years max. Most likely a 2 year deal with some sort of option for the third year.
dude couldn't get on the floor on a winning team. How much of his supposed improvement (and Bagley's) stemmed from just playing a lot of minutes on a tanking team?

Then again, it appears Phoenix is not as great of an environment as you would assume, and i doubt they invested much if anything into his development... so who knows.

Bring back Ed Davis....he was awesome starting for Cleveland when nobody thought they'd win...he's cheap..love Portland and is the perfect bench mob vet

Turner was really the only whiff considering the price of the others. I dont see any issue with taking a swing on a former lottery pick for minimal cost. Everyone does it.

Exactly. Aminu and Harkless were both great additions by Olshey. The others were all vet minimums. Turner was a freaking disaster and obviously so even at the time.

The New York Knicks expected to offer Jalen Brunson a four-year contract worth approximately $100 million when free agency opens next week, sources tell Marc Stein of Substack.

The Dallas Mavericks twice passed on the opportunity to extend Brunson on a four-year, $55.6 million deal, both before the season and in January. The Mavericks wanted to retain the ability to trade Brunson should a deal for a star become available.

When the season ended, the Mavericks believed a four-year offer in the $88 million range would be enough to retain Brunson.

The Mavericks have the ability to offer Brunson a fifth year, but the Knicks can offer a bigger role plus the familiarity of his father, Rick Brunson, on the coaching staff and his former agent, Leon Rose, in charge of the front office. Brunson is also represented by Rose's son Sam Rose.

The Knicks used draft night to begin to clear additional cap space for free agency.

Hmm. I am somewhat optimistic about us being able to sign Simons for 20M/year.

Dallas probably matches that without a second thought.

I was gonna create a thread for comps for Simons in FA. Brunson is one data point. Others I'd keep an eye on:

- Jordan Poole (early extension eligible, will prolly get a deal this summer)
- Tyler Herro (early extension eligible, will prolly get a deal this summer)
- Collin Sexton

Dallas is going to match that deal.

Lowe thinks they're going to need to beat it.

Anyways regardless of what happens with Brunson, it's good for us since it will hurt Dallas. Either they lose him or overpay him.

Brunson is unrestricted. If its all equal he'll go to New York imo

could they land Kyrie as a replacement?

I think he's Unrestricted....

My guess is that Brunson would even take a slight discount to go play in NY.

$20m/yr would be amazing get. $100m 4+1, and we wouldn’t have to worry about giving him another extension until we decide on a Sharpe extension. My excitement for a future backcourt of Simons and Sharpe can’t even be put into words.

why would he leave luka, they should be even better once hardaway comes back

he has a good role on that team, theres no reason for him to leave

His father works for NY, it's a bigger market and he will be the #1 guard there.

Anything else on Portland?
not yet, he said the Grant deal could be expanded and completed next week just to allow for more flexibility/exception generation from one side or the other. also could have cash changing hands and one of the teams could want to do it next calendar year.

Sidebar, he said thybulle might stay in Philly, and the PJ Tucker wants a deal like Batum is rumored to be getting. He's just trying to get another offer so force Miami to up theirs.

Ayton might not get a max from anyone. Portland ain't happening. Suns are telling teams they're gonna match.

Do we have interest. re-signing eubanks?
