Missed the game.

Scoot had a nice line.

Was it as promising as the line looks?

Back to back solid games!

I really like what he projects to be. His shooting can be rough but I expect that to improve.

Easy to zero in on a guy who never really tries to find his teammates. I missed the 1st half. Were those assists out of desperation?

Simons is CJ all over again, A guy who has tunnel vision and if the shots not falling brings nothing else to the table
Do you even understand what a box and 1 is???

I think Ant setup 4-5 wide open shots for guys in the 1st half that didn't go in. His assist numbers should've probably be higher, but 6 assists in 22 minutes isn't horrible. The guys he passed to had opportunities to attack and get easy buckets for their teammates, but struggled to do so.

Sharpe was probably the worst in terms of tunnel vision tonight. Would drive straight at Kessler, but failed to finish or find the open teammate each time. His defense might've been even worse too. He had a bad game, but given the run he's been on, I'm not overly alarmed by it.

It’s basically ball denial.

Derp!

No wonder Simons was checked out. He didn’t even get a chance to have tunnel vision. Nobody attempted junk defenses like that on us when our offense was clicking before Simons came back.

Please tell me you're joking.

Our offense was never clicking before Simons came back. We were dead last in the league before Ant came back. Our offense has improved with Ant back.

So according to Chauncey they actually watched video this morning and actually prepared for the Jazz to run the box and 1...what a joke.

All 6 games we have won are without him.

We played team ball. The ball moved. We had games where we put up plenty of points. Our defense was MUCH better

it was a nice line and Scoot did some good things

but his line looked a lot nicer because of garbage time. IIRC, he entered the 4th Q having scored 16 points on 17 shots with 5 assists and 4 turnovers. I think he had just about all of his 4th Q assists essentially handing the ball off to Murray and Reath for three's. And he had 20 points on 20 shots until he drained his last three. His efficiency still needs a lot of work; and he should not be shooting 7 three's in any game this season

but he was active and had 3 solid penetrations and dunks in the game. Got lost a couple of times on defense but the whole team was lost on defense

Let me phrase this again. Our offense was DEAD LAST in the league before Ant came back.

We’ve played way better without Simons this year, am I wrong?

Your description that a box-and-1 as "basically ball denial" does a very poor job of explaining what the defense is actually doing.

The Blazers have been the 3rd worst team in the West without Ant and are still the 3rd worst team in the West with Ant, so I'm not sure I'd say the Blazers play "way better" without Simons. Simons certainly wasn't the main problem tonight.

Simons is a flawed player. I think we both agree he's not a true PG (nor is Brogdon or Sharpe), but he might be Portland's best option at the moment. I think Ant is a good, not great player. Same thing I say about Sharpe. Neither are worthy of getting a big chunk of the blame for the team being 6-17 as they're being asked to do more for the team than they're probably ready to do.

This isn't totally crazy to me.

Portland had opportunities for Sharpe or Ayton to make plays against it, but they failed to do so. Ultimately, Utah, like a lot of teams seemed comfortable with the idea of packing the paint and allowing guys like Camara, Thybulle, and Scoot to beat them from outside.

Box in 1 is a junk defense that basically has players playing zone except for a player is always accounting for the other teams best shooter. On them like a wet blanket.

A little disingenuous of people questioning my basketball knowledge that I’m sure I’ve played way more organized hoops then.

but we’ll carry on I suppose.

No no no... our defense sucks because of Dame, CJ, and Stotts' drop scheme. This has already been established!

No having extremely undersized 2 guards has been the achilles heal of the Blazers for over a decade now.

You can’t win in today’s NBA when you’re a constant mismatch defensively. It will get exploited constantly

Scoot looks more comfortable with each game. My worries about him have waned some. He’s not forcing passes, he’s varying his pace and is finishing better.

I think the sprained ankle might have been the best thing that happened for him

gave him a chance to catch his breath and re-evaluate. Then he came back without the pressure of being the starting PG, which looked like it overwhelmed him in those first 5 games

Without having seen your game film and resume, I can only go off your words. Please feel free to share your resume if you think that's of value.

So far, your original description of the box-and-1 and your assessment of the impact it had on Ant was pretty poor in my opinion.
