2024-25 Blazers rotation

I really don’t think Cronin will consider trading Ant or Grant, so I’m including them in my rotation.

Ant (17)/Scoot (31)/Deni
Shae (31)/Ant (17)/Rupert
Grant (30)/Deni (8)/Kris (10)/Camara
Deni (24)/Camara (18)/DA (6)/Walker
DA (26)/Clingan (22)/RobWill/Reath

Cronin will bank on Deni’s addition increasing the value of Ant and Grant, and I honestly don’t mind.

That starting lineup—Shae will have to pick and choose his spots again like in his rookie year. With a more efficient Shae from deep, the shooting in this starting lineup is going to potentially be lethal. Deni can shoot 3’s from DEEP. You have no idea how much he is going to do for the confidence of some of these guys like Murray, Camara, and Shae, it only takes one guy to get hot and spark some confidence in the rest of the team. I’d be very curious to see how that starting lineup does with Clingan in place of DA.

When Scoot enters, I want him surrounded by 6’8+ guys or multiple shooters.

Scoot/Shae/Grant/Deni/Clingan
Scoot/Kris/Deni/Camara/Reath
Scoot/Shae/Deni/DA/Clingan
Scoot/Kris/Grant/Camara/Clingan
Scoot/Rupert/Grant/Deni/DA or Clingan

Clingan will need some time, theres no rush, so let him succeed as a low minute limited backup first.

Kris can be cut in camp. I'm interested to see if Rupert looks any better but if not he can watch another year. If we're trying to win with Grant/Simons/Timelord/etc I don't see why we need so many young scrubs playing with them. The Blazers need to pick a lane, either trade away the vets or leave the scrubs on the bench.

Perhaps we trade Grant for example to the Mavs for nonrotation players and picks in that case my rotation would be as follows;

Ant 35 Scoot 13
Sharpe 28 Scoot 15 Thybulle 5
Camera 26 Sharpe 6 Thybulle 16
Avdija 30 Rupert 12 Timelord 6
Ayton 34 Timelord 14

Thybulle and Timelord are both trade bait.

Don't know about the rotation but want to see this lineup: Scoot, Sharpe, Camera, Avdija, Ayton

Camara, not Camera. SMH.

It's assumed that Camara is in the rotation, but Thybulle is not. Advanced numbers indicate that Thybulle is a significantly more impactful player than Camara is--why is he considered less valuable?

I'm not a fan of tearing this team down any more. We need this team to stay healthy so they can build experience and chemistry. Draft smart. Look for key consolidation trades. Let this cake bake. I like what Cronin has put together and wouldn't be surprised if he has a few more interesting moves to make before the opening of the season.

Ant starting and Scoot coming off the bench seems highly unlikely given the last two pressers we've seen where they said they were building around Scoot and Shae and didn't say a damn thing about Ant.

If the roster stays as currently constructed, though I think Scoot should start, I think it's still likely that Ant will start. I think what we've heard in the pressers speaks more to how likely it is that Ant is traded in the next 12 months than who starts the season opener.

Absent any other moves, my target would be something like this:

Sharpe - 32
Scoot - 30
Ant - 30

Banton

Thybulle - 18
Avdija - 32
Grant - 32
Camera - 18

Walker
Murray
Rupert

Ayton - 32
Clingan - 16

Timelord
Duop

...with everyone else on the list simply getting spot/depth minutes. Yes, that would mean Scoot/Ant would share the floor for 12 mpg, but I think that with our current roster configuration, we have to expect that.

The real question for me is--does the FO believe that that top 9, if healthy, can develop into a contender as currently constructed. Certainly not this season, but within 2 more years. Or to put it another way--what attribute/skillset needs to be added to that primary rotation to have a chance to elevate to contender status?
Barring major moves, this feels right to me. If they always pair scoot/ant with deni avdija, the defense won’t give up a million points, but Avdija will backslide from his last season trying to cover for those two.

Best guess as starters

1. Ant ( I would prefer Scoot with Ant first of bench)
2. Sharpe
3. Avdija
4. Grant
5. Ayton

Obvious but we really need Sharpe and Scoot to make huge improvements and stay healthy.
Scoot / Ant
Sharpe / Thybulle
Avdija / Camara
Grant / Timelord
Ayton / Clingan

Too good for our lottery chances

naaah, the Hawks got the #1 pick after competing for a playoff spot. The Wizards landed Sarr because the Hawks are stupid. Then the Rockets .500 team grabbed a super rookie because the Nets imploded. Portland just needs to have fun and play basketball, and the losing will take care of itself.

I want Grant and Thybulle traded if we can get great return

The rest of the roster, they can win all they want, I will be rooting for them all esp Sharpe to have a breaktout season

I sort of agree, but then I just can't see Simons being moved to the bench.

I'd think they start with Scott off the bench.

Coach started Ant over Scoot last season. All of coach's assistants were fired by the Blazers. I honestly have no idea if there's a connection, but it's not out of the question.

Not at first though. Scoot started game one next to Ant (which was a mistake) But who knows if it was an experiment or not since Ant got hurt in game one. Scoot started 32 0f his 62 games.

Love what we've seen from Clingan, this is now how I'd allocation minutes if it were my choice;

Banton 20 Scoot 28
Sharpe 23 Ant 25
Camara 28 Sharpe 7
Grant 25 Deni 23
Clingan 26 Timelord 22 (Ayton takes Timelord minutes on back to backs)

You nailed the final roster back in June. I had many posters here assure me we'd see trades or signings and the roster wasn't finished, but nothing has happened in 5 months.

Will be super depressing if we still have all of our vets on this roster in a little over 2 months after the trade deadline. If I had to bet I might lean towards that being the most likely outcome, unfortunately though.

I'm okay with our 3 vets (Simons, Grant, and Ayton). If we get a good deal for them (young talent, 1st round picks and/or expiring contracts), then pull the trigger. If not, none are bad contracts or cancers in the locker room.

Here's my thoughts on the lineup -

The only thing I would do different than what Billups is currently doing is to give Clingan and Scoot a bit more playing time off the bench. But not at the expense of losing (yes, I know that's not a popular opinion here).

I'm a big believer in earning that starting spot. Build a winning culture.

I think Sharpe needs to be playing 35+ minutes per game and see what the team looks like with him having the ball a lot.

Is Sharpe a star player who should be paid like that? We need to find out.

Scoot right now is far behind. Both he and Banton need to learn how to get the most out of Sharpe and play off of Sharpe's "gravity" to break down the other teams defense.

I never want to see Sharpe standing in the corner not touching the ball on multiple possessions. That's a fail by the coaching staff.
