Should the Blazers draft BPA or fit?

Blazers have to get Dalton Kenecdt. That dude reminds me of Luca. He is racing up the draft boards. No way does he last until the Golden State pic. Teams like Oklahoma City will grab him in a second if he’s available. I am almost thinking that if Sarr is not available, get him.

Still pissed the Ducks lost him to a better NIL deal last summer. He is exactly what we needed

Time and time again we see teams including the Blazers pick a position of need. How many times has that backfired?
You bring in as many as you can and check them out thoroughly. Then when it’s your time to pick you pick the wrong one anyway.

Tankathon has us passing on Williams if we move up, Lol:

Perhaps they can offer the GS pick plus both seconds?

I remember the Clippers held the 13 and 14 pick in the first round a few years ago. Jerry West wanted SGA so bad, he offered two second round picks to move up one spot to number 12. The good news for them is they got SGA, the bad news is Jerry West moved on and OKC leveraged SGA away with half of the Clippers draft for the next 8 years in the Paul George trade.
Second round picks historically don’t move you up very far in round one. But, as in this example, it was worth it, just moving up one spot.

At this time this is considered a weaker draft so we should be able to move a few spots with either pick with those second rounders or the latter 1st.

This draft is pretty bad. I would be going with high floor players to start with. And I'm usually in the camp of taking high ceiling, swing-for-the-fences types. Except Sarr. I would make an exception for him.

Sheppard, Dillingham, Risacher, Missi, McCuller, Jones, Holmes, Knecht, Hall, George, etc. Pick two. I'm confident these are NBA players in some capacity.

I love when people who know less than 10 players in a draft talk about how weak it is.

There are diamonds even in a weak draft. There are a solid crop of role-player potential prospects. There's a lack of top end upside, and I feel like that negative gets attributed to the entire class too much.

And there's still upside, but with players that are a lot more raw or have more question marks than normal. A lot more guys that need the right situation to pan out.

Williams has his red flags. Doesnt rebound, no pull-up game, low volume on 3PA. Not a good fit next to Grant, but I'd rather we trade Grant anyways.

lol he’s 19. Grant was thought of so highly as a prospect that he was a mid 2nd round pick

I think the top 5 in this draft is above average. Not great.

I think Cronin & company has already identified their target and want to insure we lose as much as possible to make that happen.

My hunch is that it’s Colorado guy Cody Williams.

If they end up with Sarr or Cody, they'll be thrilled. And so should we.

Obviously I know very little compared to those who are keeping check on every stat available but it just seems every draft changes during and after March Madness. There is something about what a player does on the big stage that sets them apart. I simply don’t think anyone actually knows until you get through the top 16 teams in the country playing a loser goes home tournament.

But not always in a helpful way. Remember when Zach Collins had a hot streak shooting threes in the tournament? Which he never came close to matching in the NBA.

Zach shoots the ball pretty good. Going to have a great NBA career.

So far this draft appears a crapshoot amongst potential top picks and then throughout the draft, perhaps the least consensus on picks I have ever seen. So "BPA" is really going to be subjective IMO

I voted for BPA unless it’s a short PG

But I’m guessing we will draft a short PG even if it’s not the BPA

We gotta take a second round flyer (if he even makes it to the 2nd rd!) on this kid from Indiana St.

He’s a throwback prospect for sure

Be nice if he was as big as Jokic. His vision and patience passing is something else though.

I like this kid.
His crafty passing reminds me of Arvydas.

He has the same college level shooting prowess as Luke Babbitt. Sadly, he also has Luke's lack of athleticism.

? Will his low turn over rate, solid shooting, playmaking, and vission, be enough to overcome his lack of athleticism?

I believe his high BBIQ gives him a good chance to develop into an NBA level player. Worth taking a chance on. You can not teach his level of BBIQ.

I'm warming up to the idea of Ron Holland. Regardless, I think we'll get a good player with our pick.

I could go for all of the prospects predicted top 5. Coincidentally , the one I’m least excited about is Sarr. I just feel like he has the highest likelihood of bust and his hype is more substantiated in hypotheticals than the rest of the batch.

The guy I want us to land is Williams. Size, length, good feel for the game. I feel that at the worst he’ll be an Andrew Wiggins type, but has the ceiling of Khawi.

You're right to say Sarr has the highest bust potential but that's true with most prospects who are considered the favorite to go #1. I don't know if he'll be a star in the traditional sense, but he will transform our defense. He's a Mobley/Jackson Jr. type. I want him most.

After him though, I agree that Cody is probably the most sure thing. Would be beyond excited for either.

guessing sub 6'9 at the combine

Babbitt posted a max vert of 37.5" at the combine...

Babbitt was considered by many to be the best shooter in his draft class.

Believe you are correct on his combine max vert. But, I don't remember him using his vertical in any NBA games.

What I do remember was a joke we would tell about Babbitt.

? How do you know when Babbitt is on the bench during a game?

A. It is the only time during a game when both his feet leave the ground. Heck, he hardly ever moved his feet on defense. Or, Is my old memory failing me today?
