PREDICT THE PICKS

Who will the Blazers draft? Will there be any trades?

think long term development. Grab two or three 19 year olds that Lillard didn't want to play with.

Eyeball a playoff push in 2029. In the meantime, lose as much as possible for 4 more years, and mmmaybe Portland will get a #1 pick not named Oden.

So as recently as May 6, those were the top ten for ESPN analysts? Exactly who picked them?

I think that, especially for the last three Blazer picks, they might be complete shockers for us. Just like Murray and Rupert last year. These guys seem to have opinions that may be off from the consensus and they just go ahead and grab them.

anyone listen to jakelfisher's dunc'on podcast? He apparently had a section on Portland's plans.

Not sure how a top10 doesn't have Reed Sheppard.

Agreed but it does have Walter, Collier and Filipowski and regardless of how unpredictable this draft is supposed to be I don't see any of those three guys getting picked before Sheppard... hell it's virtually a lock that his teammate Dillingham is taken after him.

Yeah, that's a really strange top ten.

We wind up with Clinghan + Buzelis by the end of the night.

Draft night trade?

Brogdan and Grant get traded

nothing that juicy. Mentioned that as far as trading their vets, we’ve been quiet and coy. No indication or noise that we are shopping anyone.

Reiterated that he’s hearing we are active when it comes to inquiring about moving up in the draft.

Please, show me anything from Cronin's history that shows he has the inclination or ability to make a draft-night trade.
There is so much wishful thinking here. In previous drafts, one could argue there was much greater impetus to make moves and he sat on his hands.

Now in this draft, 1) player ratings are largely homogenous and there are a bunch of players in the same tier, and 2) we have potential tax issues if we move up to a higher salary slot (and actual team personnel have acknowledged the FO being happy about dropping in the lotto)....

Cronin is going to take a player at 7 and 14 and call it a day.

I wonder if having the second round on a second day is going to affect it. In the old days teams might literally forget about a player because everything's moving so fast. Now they're going to have 24 hours to overthink it and maybe there'll be less chance of getting a steal.

I've done this the week of the draft the last few yrs but can't remember where i posted it for retrospective analysis.... I'll just put it here.

My final big board (not a mock!):

1. Sarr
2. Risacher
3. Knecht
4. Sheppard
5. Carter
6. Holland
7. Williams
8. Holmes
9. Clingan
10. da Silva
11. Salaun
12. Buzelis
13. Ware
14. Scheierman
15. Tyson

I wonder...if they fail to send in their pick in time at their slot and SA gets to pick ahead of them, would that reduce their slotted salary for their rookie? Any chance the FO would actually do something like that to save a few hundred K?

Has that ever happened?

Has that ever happened?
Intentionally? Doubtful. I know that my Vikings were late making their pick back in 2003 and dropped 2 spots, but I don't know if it impacted salary slotting, or how the NBA handles that.

They would just trade down with SA for a future 2nd rather than something like that if it was truly just about saving a little $

I'm operating under the premise that Cronin is incapable of actually consummating a draft-day deal.

Blazers are thinking Ron Holland is all I have heard? I know nothing else but I have heard that.

Yes, by far this is the most likely outcome. As another poster said Cronin always waits for a deadline to do trades (Norm, CJ,Hart, Dame training camp deadline, etc)

Yeah we'll have to see how this works. I like the idea of more time for trades as well as being able to follow what happens in the second round. Jokic was drafted during a taco bell commercial.

They could do 20 picks first day but have them 8 minutes. Gives FO a bit more time for trades. Then second day do 5 minutes up to pick 45 and 3 minutes.

Or maybe just do lottery picks day 1 with 10 minutes between each pick. Second day picks 15-35. Add a third day of picks 36-60.

How about free agency before the draft?

Maybe change free agency so day1 teams can agree to extensions, rookie extensions, resign their own players. Day 3 teams can begin talking with other teams free agents

NBA free agency, the draft, and the trade deadline are my 3 favorite parts of the NBA season, that is outside Blazers playoff games. Anything to extend or make those periods more entertaining I'm in support of.
