If Simons was going to be the #5 pick next draft, why did he enter this draft?

He would have lost one season of salary, if he went to college. But he would make about 3 times as much as the #5 pick vs pick #24 money.

I think he was the #5 high school prospect. Things change a little after a year of college, so he was never just the "#5 pick".

Where he chose to go had no academic load ….it's a sports prep school...coaches attract kids to their programs....Neil addressed this is pretty good detail as far as the quality of the program he chose...

Not sure what the complications are of switching that late. Could he have freely chosen to commit to another school at that point. I don't know what the other opportunities where. I can't blame the kid though for finding out he was eligible for the draft and might get taken in the first round without spending a a year in college.
