Fwiw the guy in that video who compared Simons’ shooting to Klay is KDs trainer, and has worked with other NBA players (Paul George, John Wall, Rondo, etc) and is known to incorporate analytics into his training. Pretty interesting guy. Name is Justin Zormelo for anyone that cares
Good info. Thanks.

Really like the pick, AS at #24. Given his upside it's been an unusual way to pick up a lottery talent a year early.
Yes a big risk - but huge upside. Hopefully grows another couple of inches and we could have a scoring machine on our hands.

Only perplexing thing is the direction of the franchise. Couple of REALLY young, project guys picked last two drafts that will not likely produce straight away.
So how does that tie into the current Lillard timeline?

Either way, I'm excited with the young guys we've assembled and would like to see the team go full on rebuild. Looking forward to Summer league.

Honestly, I won't be surprised if both our picks show really well in summer league. I know I will be watching every game to see how they look against some better competition.

Wouldn't be surprised either....but at the same time, that is what every team's fans say just before summer league. We all want to have that glimmer of hope.

The fact that there haven't been any press conference with the young guys nor a contract singature means something is still in discussion for a potential trade?

Sometimes that can be the case.

I believe 1st round picks can't be signed until after July 1st.

No team has signed any 1st round pick. Only Phoenix with their 2nd... but I believe they are under the cap limit which is why they can.

That's false. Many teams have had introductory press conferences.

Jason quick should ask Neil Why he promised Simons to draft him while he wanted to trade the Pick for a Veteran

NO promised that pick after realizing that the 24th pick wouldn't net him the vet he was hoping for?

Press conferences are not the same as signing a player to a contract....

Teams still hold press conferences because they hold the players rights and are under that teams control.

That was probably decided when they brought Simons back for a second workout. There were even reports of them trying to move up (presumably to secure Simons because there were other teams interested, Lakers being one)

I watched part of the replay of the Blazers draft broadcast. Although the crew talked about a few other players during the broadcast, when it came time for Portland's pick, they talked about one and only one player: Anfernee Simons. There was not a hint of excitement before or after the pick. It was pretty obvious they knew.

Yeah I doubt Olshey went into draft night still hopeful of landing a vet. It’s not like GMs wait until theyre on the clock to pick up the phone. I bet most in the league even knew how far Porter would fall.

I'm still fighting the idea the Simons can't play this year because he is too skinny. Lou Williams (who is my closest comp at this point) has never been more than 6'2" (NBA height) and 175 lbs. Clearly Lou has a problem playing in the NBA because of his slight build right? I must have been drinking too much all those nights he torched us off the bench.

More and more I believe that Simons will follow the trajectory of Collins. We won't see him in games at all for the first few months, then he will get his chance, then we will see him more regularly.

I think the biggest challenge to Simons getting minutes is how well Trent and WB4 play this year. I like Simons, but personally I'm pulling for WB4 to step into that role 6th man this year.

Can you give me the Link please? I like to watch that

I'm not sure that there is a link. I did a quick search and didn't see one. It was broadcast on the local Comcast Sports Network station. Maybe someone else can find it :dunno:

Olshey mentioned that Trent will guard more SFs to begin this career than SGs. Simons is pretty much a SG, and Baldwin is a point. In theory you could see all three together. Of course if you see all three together next season, something went wrong.

Or something went really really right, and they all progressed so much they become major contributors off the bench together.

If you started Aminu, that would be an interesting line change down the road.

WBIV
Simons
Trent
Collins
Davis

Throwback to those Knick-Heat rivalries. Games in the 60s!

Not likely with our starting unit, but I would love a second unit that locks down the other teams bench. Collins and Ed already make a splash in that area.
Oh, I agree, was just joking on it.

Or very, very right! :)

(I'm referring of course to a bench clearing blowout ;) )

Did he say this at the presser?

Woj mentioned on the broadcast that Trent was plug and play at the 2/3, so would enforce what he said at the draft. Seems like they think Trent might follow Collins trajectory.
