This list, drawn from several sources, but mostly basketball-reference.com, catalogues what players have actually been paid in their careers, not how much they are owed...although the two top, Shaquille O'Neal and Kevin Garnett, could reach $300 million before their careers are done. Kidd ranks #4 and if he can get Cuban to give him that two year extension on top of the $21.4 million owed next year, he could surpass Chris Webber and move into #3.

For the record, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar made $20.2 million for his career and Michael Jordan made $93.4 million. You may now play "which doesnt belong and why?" It's easy.

1. Shaquile O?€™Neal
252 million

2. Kevin Garnett
210.1 million

3. Chris Webber
177 million

4. Jason Kidd
145.7 million

5. Alonzo Mourning
140.2 million

6. Allen Iverson
132.5 Million

7. Juwan Howard
131. 2 Million

8. Stephon Marbury
130.3 Million

9. Kobe Bryant
127.1 Million

10. Grant Hill
126.0 Million

11. Patrick Ewing
123.8 Million

12. Tim Duncan
122.0 Million

13. Ray Allen
120.8 million

14. David Robinson
118.1 million

15. Allan Houston
117.6 million

16. Tracy McGrady
115.8 million

17. Dikembe Mutombo
113.6 million

18. Scottie Pippen
109.9 million

19. Michael Finley
109.4 million

20. Jermaine O?€™Neal
109 million

21. Karl Malone
106.5 million

22. Reggie Miller
105.1 million

23. Gary Payton
104.8 million

24. Zydrunas Ilgauskas
101.6 million

25. Hakeem Olajuwan
99.4 million

Only 3 of the top 10 has ever won a title. And Alonzo did it well past his prime...

Although, to be honest, quite a few of those guys who haven't won titles may have deserved the money, anyways.

Well, two more may make this year.

18 of the 25 have been to the Finals. 8 of the 25 have won it...and Allen and Garnett could make it 10.

3 of the 25 have never been out of the first round: McGrady, Hill and Marbury.

Regarding Mutombo, out of that $113 million, how much did the Nets pay?

I would consider that superstar players play the first 3-4 years of their careers at rookie wages, so they deserve (IMO) to be well paid later on in their careers for what they did as younger guys.

This list is a joke compared to football (Not american)

About $45 million...$15 million in salary for the one year he played and the $30 million buyout.

I'm counting 19 players in the NBA Finals, with McGrady, Hill, Webber, Marbury, Howard, and Jermaine O'Neal not getting there. Who am I missing?

JUWAN HOWARD!? OMG.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas !? breaking 25!?

If Jordan didn't decide to quit and play baseball he would be higher up the list.

^^ He only missed 1 year, and part of the lockout season. He wouldn't be much higher.

Honestly I'm not that surprised. Most of these players signed their deals before the modern salary cap or they've played for an extremely long amount of time.

I'm surprized that Kevin Garnett (210 mill) has made 90 mill more than Duncan (122 mill)

Near the end with the Bulls his annual salary was in the $30mm range. Just one more season like that would've vaulted him well past Pippen and near the top 10.

When he quit to play baseball, the year before he made 4 million, and the year after he made 3.9 million. So it would have added most likely 4 million to his career total. Still well short of Pippen.

He wouldn't have made 30 million during that year, he would have made 4 million like the year previous, and year after.

Jordan's two years on the Wizards were for minimum salary, too. According to basketball-reference, Pippen made $18M and $19M during those two years.

my recall is that the Bulls continued to pay MJ while he was playing baseball...they knew his contract was a bargain as it was signed just before the explosion in pay

Don't feel too sorry for Jordan people...

He had those groundbreaking endorsements, etc. Yeah it is obvious to some but not all.

And therefore had 4 less seasons of max money.

Considering how many years has passed since MJ retired... id say he earned a fair lot already since the value of money has decreased in the past decade...

Same goes for Kareem, but you just have to multiply what i said by around 10

What's amazing is that Jordan for all but 2 years of his career played for ~$4M/year or less.

I think that was his point
