Chess - Magnus Carlsen - considered the best chess player in the history of the game
Being the world chess champion, and having the highest rating for 10 years (as I understand it), he's starting to crack. He's in a self-described "funk", and is in danger of losing his highest rating status - he hasn't won a big tournament in over a month. He will play the winner of a championship series to defend his world championship at the end of 2021. Another tournament starting today, and he's in 1st place at the end of the day. Maybe he's getting his mojo back?

Basketball - Damian Lillard - future hall of famer
Stuck with teammate injuries and overall mediocre quality. He's struggling to break through.

Crossfit - Mat Fraser - definitely the best crossfitter in history (actually just turned 31 at the end of january)
After coming in 2nd 2 years in a row, he's now won the crossfit games 5 years in a row, and in completely dominating fashion. He could easily win 2 more straight years, as no one is close to him, but he's decided to retire (for whatever reason).

This perfectly sums up the Neil Olshey administration - surrounding his cashcow with mediocrity. Ultra conservative.
