OK I may have been wrong about needing a 3rd PG. CJ looked pretty good out there with both the starters and the 2nd unit.

While I still doubt he could handle a good trapping opponent, I really don't think our other 2 PG's can either, so the Blazers as a team need to be prepared for that regardless.

Crabbe also showed enough potential for me not wanting to cut him just to make room for that 3rd PG. So for right now I am all for keeping what we have unless a really good PG prospect is cut by another team at the deadline that is just too good to pass on. Not sure who that would be though.

Thoughts?
 
I think the team will probably stand pat, mainly because I think Olshey has his sights set on this Summer and doesn't want to make any moves to disrupt what he's planned, and I agree that Stott's experiment of a "platoon" of CJ, Will and Batum as the de-facto PG worked well... in ONE preseason game. However, I'd feel a lot happier if we unloaded Claver for a serviceable PG, especially now Lillard has shown he's not indestructible.

If Pablo Prigioni was available, I'd LEAP at it, and he possibly might, if only because he's a traditional PG to the core, and those aren't really wanted in the triangle.

I don't think the moves for a 3rd PG would effect Olshey's plans for next summer. It would be either releasing Crabbe or Claver for someone who was cut late from another team. It is going to be tempting as someone decent will get released. (Like Marshall did last year)

You need to drop what you're doing and compile a list of every PG likely to get cut! Do it for us (so I don't have to).
 
I don't think we need another point guard at all. The guys we have as pt guards/combo guards are going to be needing minutes on the court. How much did we use Earl Watson?

Because CJ has looked good I have come around to that line of thinking. However we did not use Earl because Damian never got hurt. We can't expect him to play 80 games every year.

How did Will Bynum look last year?

Stevens said guard Will Bynum will not be with the Celtics for Sunday’s game against the Brooklyn Nets.

“Will was in Boston and having a physical today and will not be joining us tomorrow,” Stevens said. “I’m going to know more Monday. As of now, I know he won’t be with us the next two days.”

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge and Bynum were expected to meet on Saturday, according to two NBA sources, and the team is likely to waive the 31-year-old Bynum, who was acquired Friday from the Pistons.
 
I'm pretty sure that we should have a 3rd PG.
I'm very sure we don't need 5 centers (or 7 or so PFs if Biebs and Freeland are PFs)
 
If we were to take a poll here on S2, CJ wouldn't be considered a PG, and I'd agree with that.
That being said, it's very possible he'll be one in a year or two.

edit: in fact Stotts has said that the 3rd PG will be done by a "committee" of Nick, CJ, and Will.

Yeah, I remember reading this, and I think it's the best course of action frankly. It will help Will and CJ develop their ability to create, which is very useful for a SG.
