These numbers tell me that qualifying for food stamps is far too easy. The basics of life are food, shelter and clothing. I sincerely doubt that over 13% of our population require assistance to purchase food. Logic dictates that the American taxpayer is subsidizing other goods if this many people require help to purchase food.

This abuse of the social safety net is what makes people who pay their taxes and demand little from the government angry.

I was a cashier at a grocery store and I've seen stuff like that, a lot. I would love people paying for a cart full of stuff with food stamps, then I'd watch them pack them away in their Lexus. Or the people who would come through with lobsters and filet mignon and buy it with food stamps. Or the people who would have me ring up half their order on one food stamp card, then start another order on another food stamp card.
