Let's be real here too. These guys were targeted because they were republican and honestly media is partly to blame for this, for pushing these ideas of the "alt right" and nonsense. I have no side in this shit fest of political parties but it seems to me the left is more violent than the right between antifas bullshit and what happened this morning.

I believe that is likely the case as well (occam's razor), but I think it's irresponsible to declaratively state the motivation of the shooter based solely on speculation.

If that does in fact turn out to be the case, however, I wonder if this becomes a jumping off point for this kind of targeting to become a hate crime. I mean, unlike rallies where violence occurs, these guys weren't actually protesting or even stating anything; they were (ostensibly) targeted simply "being republicans". Crimes based on ontology are generally prosecuted more harshly, but political affiliation isn't currently a protected class.

Might be a bit irresponsible but I'm getting the same vibe I did when dude killed 5 officers in Dallas. It's all political. This society we are currently in is just nuts man, Kathy griffin holding up trumps head, it's kinda cool to be violent towards people you don't agree with these days I noticed. It's fucked, I think we have so many people who walk around with mental disorders that aren't diagnosed. That's how extreme people are on both sides. It's weird. Really fucking weird and it's terrifying for the future of this country, youth, all that.

Also have already seen people sharing "prayers for victims of gun violence"--because the fact of the weapon of choice is apparently more important than the reason behind the violence.

And also let me say I don't believe the shooter did this because he was influenced or whatever, I worded it wrong earlier. People make their own decisions, you can't blame anything for that. I do think it is wrong to mislead people in media which could cause certain outrage given that the information is false just to push a narrative. It's why I avoid all mainstream media these days, too much bias and false information. What happened today was a mental disorder issue. Anybody who wants to inflict harm on somebody for different views has something wrong with them

My first thoughts were that it's surprising there aren't more of these attacks against republicans. There's organized violence on campuses and in their town hall meetings. People read rasta's twitter feeds. The media has been gleefully promoting all this. It's not surprising someone gets #triggered and snaps.

Of course those are your first thoughts. Because, if we know anything about the people on "my twitter feeds," they're armed to the teeth NRA-nuts.

Well, if the weapon of choice was a few choice words, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't've made the news.

All it took was one. Congrats.

The amazing thing about this is it's almost certain not to change anybody's mind about anything. Except maybe politicians' minds about going out in public.

Couldn't have been politically motivated. No way. Time for liberals to talk to us like children and tell us how these things just happen sometimes and its a mystery as to why. But if there was a role reversal it would be racially/politically motivated beyond the shadow of a doubt and any conservatives should be ashamed of themselves.

Who's denying it's politically motivated?

One of the people on my Twitter Feed? Ooh, I bet it was Andy Richter. You can see the rage in that guy.

All it took was one who reads the kinds of tweets you post here. It's not surprised to see that people are foaming at the mouth batshit crazy.

Congrats.

So it's not the second amendment that's the problem, it's the first? Got it. Good libertarian argument.

Anyway, they'll be able to ask whether it was Michael Ian Black or Michelle Wolf that really set him off, because this is the guy:

GOP baseball practice shooter identified as 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson

Are you REALLY saying that I am personally responsible for someone getting shot and snarkily implying that I should relish that? Because that's amazing even for you. So... congrats back at you for outdoing yourself.

You're a cheerleader for what looks like the cause. No, you're not personally responsible, but you contribute to the sense that these kinds of things are bound to happen. Like I said, I'm surprised it's only been on a few far left leaning campuses so far. Sore losers so butthurt they're stirring up and cheering on hate.

Fuck you, I am a cheerleader for nobody.

No, you're not personally responsible,

Ooh, are you sure? Don't want to give me too much credit.

but you contribute to the sense that these kinds of things are bound to happen.

What the fuck does that even mean? And what are "these kinds of things"? Gun nuts going off?

Like I said, I'm surprised it's only been on a few far left leaning campuses so far.

What is the "it"? Are you stuck in the 70s? Are you thinking of the Weather Underground? Have you HEARD of Right Wing Militias?

Sore losers so butthurt they're stirring up and cheering on hate.

Who is cheering on hate? Jesus, just go on Twitter and look at the replies to anyone with a remotely Jewish name if you want to see hate.

Denny, this is really a time when you should just STFU with your usual babble. Let's just agree that it is terrible that politicians get shot at. We can agree on that, right?

So you come in here with a fucking narrative already, go figure from the guy that posts 24/7 about trump and replies to people with verified journalists from twitter on the left because it fits the narrative. Stop. Just stop. The fucking pieces of the puzzle are there. It was obviously politically motivated but you would rather try and spend time to denounce that it was some guy from the left then talk about the issue at hand here

This dude just try to gun down a bunch of people playing baseball, I don't give a fuck if they are left or right, it's fucked, and the only thing that saved them were guns from the officers there. Jesus Christ

I'm surprised you don't realize how the constant stream of ridicule and hate in all those tweets and in the media doesn't contribute to pushing a nut case over the edge.

Thank goodness the other side is upholding standards of decency and love, or who knows what might happen.

So, just to recap, you ARE a libertarian, right? So you believe that free speech is dangerous, you just think it's worth it, because better to die free in a pool of blood than live safe?

You know what, Denny, you're right. It's dangerous for me to read things that make me angry. So can you change the settings on this forum so I can put you on ignore? I think we'd all benefit.

I think free speech is free speech. Inciting riots or someone to violence is still a crime. With Rights come Consequences for your actions.
