I'd like to see Tulo in Pinstripes but I'd have every doctor associated with the Yankees in on his pre-trade physical. Holland is also an interesting addition.
 
If the only two acquisitions are Alexei Ramirez and Andrew Miller, the Yanks did okay.

A strong lefty from the bullpen is great but we also need a solid lefty in the rotation now that we can't rely on old jelly belly CC. Which is why I'm hoping we make a pitch at Lester.
 
Am I the only one that isn't thrilled about Lester? Just don't want him, and certainly not for loads of money and years.
 
I'd go balls out for Alexi Ramirez, he can easily be the heir apparent to RE2PECT SS, for years to come, with the glove and bat.

I'd give Tulo any darn thing he wants. If the Yanx are going to throw alot of cash at any one player, I'd do so with Tulo in a NY minute.....a no brainer, despite his injury last year, he still holds the #1 All Time SS Fldg. Pctg. of anyone who has played SS. That speaks volumes to me, He can hit outside of CO. very well, last year before his injury he was hitting a bit over .400 against Lefties in all Parks....

Freese would be solid defensivley and offensively too. Tho' his offense hasn't been what it was in St.Louis, I have seen David win a few game this year with the Halo's with walk off HR's reminsicent of his MVP World Series perfromance. Plus he becomes a serious monster to deal with in post season play. When the heat is hottest, Freese cools the heat down....

I wouldn't mind Marlon Byrd either, at the right price of course.

I'd only throw money at Tulo and Ramirez tho'.

Boz's statement got me to thinking: I expect Lester is going to want 20 Mil or more. He made 13 Mil last year. I'd be hesitant to give him a dime over 14-15 Mil, and I think that would still be about 5 MIl too much. After all Lester is a good solid pitcher, and Cy Young winner. HOWEVER THIS ONE STAT HAS ME CONCERNED: LESTER HAS AVERAGED GIVING UP 16 HOME RUNS IN HIS 9 YEARS. That concerns me, but I'd not hesitate to go after him, we need a solid southpaw. I could debate his HR ratio is due to the Green Monster, and Short Porch in Fenway, not pitcher friendly at all from either side of the plate....
 
Breaking down those 5 =

#1 Never going to happen
#2 We don't need him
#3 Get-er-done
#4 He's 37 years old & still locked into the Phillies for 8M ?
#5 Yes if we can't resign Headley & Freeze might need a serious look anyway since he would cost 1/2 of what Headley gets.

I wouldn't either if we could all count on CC but we can't & we do need a solid lefty. Who else is available who could be a 2rd or 3rd stater & give us 15+ wins with a low ERA?

No doubt, I'm always in favor of having at least one good LH starter...it's virtually a "must" in my managerial handbook. Especially my Yankee managerial handbook. lol

You'd be hard pressed to find (just off the top of my head) a championship Yankee team WITHOUT a solid lefty in the rotation.

Yankee teams must protect their RF porch from opposing LH hitters and the easiest best way is to have a LHP making them wave at GOOD sharp breaking balls.

Oh sure, you can get by with only RHPs in the rotation, but at least 3 of them better be all-star type/excellent pitchers...but that is very rare.

Easier to find a "pretty good" or very decent crafty LHP, then just put him in the rotation and let him do his "thing".


I'll take Lester any day on my team, and he is just what the doctor ordered for this Yankee team..and he's been sound and durable-
- but I doubt very much the Yanks are going for another gigantic long term pitcher's contract in THIS off season.

My sentiments as well, now if we could also land Chris Sale, who is not for Sale, too bad, we could use a strong couple of southpaws, ntm-Cole Hamels, who could of been had last year, during the Phillies halfway fire sale kinda sorta...yet Cole is locked up now, yet one never knows what locked up players can become available at the right time and price...,

Chris Sale is a GREAT pitcher, a great LH pitcher.

If the Whitesox were listening to offers for Sale, here would be mine:

By the way, has anyone ever looked at Sale's journey to becoming a starting pitcher for the Whitesox?

He was drafted 1st round by Whitesox 2010.
Pitched in 11G, 10 IP as a reliever.

Was called up August 2010 and pitched 23.1 IP in relief for Whitesox.
Pitched 71 IP as a reliever in 2011.

Became a starter in 2012, started 29G, 192 IP.

...and the rest is history.

Have I missed something?
He pitched 10 innings one year in minors,
..then 23.1 IP in relief the next year at the ML level, another 71 relief innings the next year...and PRESTO--> The following year (2012) he starts 29G , 192 IP

I think it's very refreshing. Maybe the Yanks will remove the Pampers from some of their "young" pitchers and get them up here....once in a while?

...if I had to pick one it would be Lester simply because he's a lefty, though some of the "experts" have Scherzer in pinstripes next year.

I would want Jon over Max, 1 we need a quality southpaw. 2nd I foresee Max blowing his shoulder or elbow out in 1-2 years. I see much to much pronation of Max's shoulder, elbow even wrist, beyond the norm. check him out one day if you can catch Max in slow motion film, you'll easily see his over pronation. That scares me, coming from 3 RH and 2LH cuff surgery/repairs....

I like Max too. Pitches a lot of innings, saves the pen. Typical heat guy, gets faster late as he empties the tank. Then again great pitching does us no good if we can score runs.

If the Yanks want to go for another big pitcher's contract, all I can say is:
"be my guest". And I would also prefer Lester/ Scherzer.

If it's Scherzer the Yanks sign, then maybe,..and I tend to think so, CC can add balance and be the effective LH of the rotation. CC can be a difference maker.
His fastball may now be medicocre, but he's always had a good change-up and breaking ball...and that should be good enough to put some wins on the board.

Once he realizes he can't blow hitters away with his fastball anymore, I have to believe he'll make the adjustment and kinda re-invent himself.

He does have professional pride and wants to avoid being lifted from games in the 4-5th inning after giving up 5 runs. lol

I think the difference between Lester & Scherzer would be about $5M as I see Lester looking for $20M & Scherzer around $25M
 
...Yanx need to learn from their past contract mistakes...I don't want to sign any pitcher to a contract that take him past the age of 35 at the most.
