Does it matter? There is a religious and secular war going on in Egypt, which our president considered a foreign policy success as recently as a year ago.

Today, he golfs while people are being slaughtered Egypt, and meanwhile, the White House is still not open for tours, which is such a cheap political stunt that nobody even remembers it was Obama who stopped the tours.

He's a fucking disaster. Bush was a disaster. Obama has taken what Bush did and made it far, far worse.

Nobody knows right now. What is known is that a country that was one of the most modernized in the Arab world just a few years ago is now in flames.

Okay, I wasn't at all trying to defend Obama. I was saying that your thread title plus your original post suuuure makes it look like you were saying that Islamists killed 600 people today. It is misleading. That is all.

I don't get why some people think the Arab Spring was a foreign policy move by the Obama administration. If you think we should have quashed it and favored the dictators, go ahead and just be openly colonialist and get it over with. But in reality, we had little to do with it.

Egypt was stable for years because we funneled billions of dollars per year into the Mubarak regime.

Oh, and I'm fairly sure that it's the military that controls the 1.5 billion dollars in military aid we give Egypt per year. The same military that just killed 600 citizens today.

Egypt says Obama's comments encourage armed groups

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt said U.S. President Barack Obama's remarks condemning a violent crackdown on Islamist protesters, were not based on "facts" and will strengthen and encourage violent groups, the presidency said in a statement on Friday.

It said Egypt was facing "terrorist acts" in reference to recent attacks on churches and government buildings that Egypt blames on supporters of ousted Islamist President Mohamed Mursi.

Security forces on Wednesday killed hundreds of Mursi's supporters, as well as others, while dispersing protestors

Who knows what the Arab Spring was about? I'm guessing it was a calculated push by the Muslim Brotherhood to get in power, considering Obama had the Muslim Brotherhood at the WH shortly after that first coup of democracy. It worked for a while, but the world is now seeing Obama for the fool he is.

As far as I understood the situation, the church bombings were after the massacre in Cairo. But that could be incorrect.

The Arab Spring was most definitely not instigated by the Muslim Brotherhood. It started in Tunisia and spread to Algeria and Morocco before anything happened in Egypt. The demonstrations in Egypt were massive in scale and were spearheaded by young liberals. The Brotherhood had a presence because they are a huge political party in Egypt, but they were by no means behind the revolution.

Conjecture. I could just as easily say that the Brotherhood started the protests in the countries you mentioned (where they weren't banned), and used it as a cover to overthrow Mubarak, with the help of Obama.

Anybody who believes Obama after the Mohammed Video bullshit story is an idiot in my book. I don't put anything past the guy.

The start and spread of the Arab Spring is very well documented. Look it up.

I will once again help you out..obama championed this movement...he sent arms to these guys and did it all under the blanket of democracy...it was bullshit then, and its bull shit now he thought he could spend half a year telling the world we were sorry and then everyone would embrace the good life..man if you dont get it I cant help you
