The Red Sox fan who caught A-Roids 660 HR refused to give it back saying "I've always hated A-Rod & I'll never give him this ball". The officials then asked the fan who his favorite Red Sox player is & he said David Ortiz. So they offered him a face to face with Ortiz & some memorabilia to which the fan said, "NO!, I plan on blowing this ball up on you-tube".

Pretty stupid if you ask me considering he could probably get a nice piece of change for it. But hey, that's a Red Sox fan for you.

I was stationed in Massachusetts twice on active duty. My comment would be typical dumbass pilgrim.

Well lets weigh it out for a moment, on one hand a blown up baseball & a few laughs, on the other hand a few thousand dollars, DAMN! what should I do????:hcp: DOH!

I have a better idea for that Redsox fan.
He should shove it up his a$$ as a reminder THAT was a HR Arod hit to beat his Redsox on May 1, 2015.

Let him. The idiot would probably blow himself up as well.

If the guy has a family his wife has grounds to do a Loraine Bobbit on him.

lol. well since you are lookin at all angles here, if he blows it up on youtube, if my understanding of how youtube works is correct, if you recieve over a certain amount of views you get compensated... so its gonna be a win win for this NUT

I still don't see him getting the kind of money he would have been offered, even though IMO the ball is worthless.

There's no way it's worthless. There's people out there who collect and have nothing better to do with their money. I bet the guy could offer it up today and get a quick 10K for it without trying too hard.

You need a channel with lots of views over a period of time. YouTube then can put ads on you material and that's how you start making money.

IMO its worthless, but yeah I can see someone coming up with 10K for it which is my point, this guy would be an asshole to just blow it up but then again we are talking about a Red sox fan here. The jerk should auction it off & make a few dollars.

BTW: I read in today's paper that Ortiz was pissed for someone in the Yankees org volunteering his memorabilia without asking his permission first. (see OP).

...he won't blow it up...he'll wise up and greed will get the better of him.

Yup he was just showing off. Nobody can be dumb enough to throw money away. Then again did you see the guy?

Question, how is that ball authenticated now? I mean unless the balls were marked he could change it off for any ball.

Good question but I would imagine that's the first thing they did when they started negotiations.

I recall when McGwire was approaching HR #62 that they would mark the baseball. Same for when Bonds was going after #756

Was it #62 McGwire hit (?) ....as he rounded first base I remember Mark Grace giving him a nice "atta boy" pat on his back.

And I'll NEVER forget John Madden being interviewed during a game(1998) from his seat and him responding to a question regarding the HR duel between McGwire and Sosa with something along the lines of:
I think what these Yankees are doing is being sorely overlooked.

Bless his heart.

More then any other cheat McGwire was the one that pissed me off the most with his his phony embracing of the Maris family knowing he cheated to accomplish it.

And speaking of phonies Selig with his condemning of PEDs over the last few years after he verbally credited McGwire & Sosa's 98 HR chase with saving the game.

...I'll always wonder one way or the other as to exactly how much MLB/Selig really knew about PEDs use back then. Did they not know or did they simply look the other way in lieu of "healing" the game after the previous strike that again damaged the game so deeply?

My guess would be looking the other way. Not to mention all the "Chicks dig the long ball" ads.

Guys....oral anabolic steroids were sold OTC in 98. You needed need injectable or HGH. GNC and several other brands of and do had big Mac on their posters in the stores. PEDs, yes...but perfectly legal and within the rules. Now maybe Mac was doing needles with Jose back in Oakland, but all evidence of the HR race points to OTC supplements. There were photos of the bottles in his locker.

Its difficult to find fault with players taking supps that were widely available and in use outside Olympic athletes. The blame falls on MLB and MLBPA. But the league was making a lot of money and players were getting big contracts.

...^^^don't know about Mac, but there were a few other back then that were obviously using much more than HGH.
