they did let it escalate too until the one tried to move away. If the two women were more proficient, I would wager on a similar outcome to the first incident.
 
Some additional thoughts:

1. Some of the racism in this thread is disappointing to me. I don't know why any of this needs to be about race (other, perhaps, than the initial conversation about shoe-shining being a motivating factor).

2. I believe that the black guy is 50. I'm not sure why someone younger than that would claim to be 50.

3. If I see people fighting on the bus and I don't know them, I'm not getting involved in the vast majority of cases. Maybe if someone were getting kicked while they were on the ground I'd try to stop the person... generally, though, I don't want to risk my life for people I don't know and I don't want to contribute to an escalating circumstance (where, if I step in, a person steps in on the other side, etc.)

4. The behavior of the older guy fascinates me. He DOES look like he's baiting, but he keeps retreating (to the front of the bus, for example). He also doesn't say anything racist after the initial overtone-laden comments about shining his shoes. Considering how crazy he acts later, he's a very restrained racist if he is one.

5. This is blowing up on 4chan? I haven't gone there in, like, a year... but I shudder to think of some of the things they've come up with.

I don't understand why people are bringing up race so much in this thread either.

I don't understand that mentality. Don't you feel disgusted when you see someone getting their ass kicked without being able to fight back? I would of immediately jumped up and pulled those guys from each other. I might of been able to keep that guy's teeth if I were there. I'm not saying this as though I'm a badass, I just don't think I could idly sit there and watch.

I don't see the white guy being a closet racist at all. Obviously words were exchanged before the recording started but I don't see anything remotely racist coming from the white man.

He walks up to the front of the bus to avoid a physical confrontation while continuing the verbal backtalk which is completely harmless. The black guy can't keep his head cool and invades the white guy's personal space. Black guy takes a swing/slap/flick/grab and the white guy defends himself by beating the shit out of him.

I don' think the white guy did anything wrong (I'm referring to them as white and black because it's the easiest thing to point them out as! :))

I don't see it as blatant, I see it as two people with low intelligence, very low, handling a situation the best way they can. Which obviously isn't good.
