Blue Ridge was certainly comfortable for a navy ship, but being a flagship, it was also "Mickey Mouse" 24/7. We had to walk a pretty straight line at all times, even stateside. My friends on other (non flag) ships had it far more mellow most of the time.........

Tin can is right. I'm surprised, I thought those ships were built stronger to withstand shit like this and torpedoes and what not. That ship crumpled like a beer can.

That's because technically they ARE beer cans. There's a lot more aluminum than steel in today's warships. That makes them cheaper and faster...........and far more fragile. The British Navy found out that the hard way during the Falklands Islands War. Today's defensive capabilities and technologies are intended to counterbalance the lack of armor, but they're only as good as the folks operating them......

And in this case, it is a stretch to call this operating. I don't know, but just one of the many possibilities, they sacked the Capitan and broke out the stash.

As it involves relations with Japan, arguably the most critical ally in Asia, the ambassador would be a key contact person, but there is no ambassador to Japan. Trump has not nominated anyone.

said as a qualfied Surface OOD on a Naval ship, there's no f****** excuse for EVER running into someone. Even if they were running dark...even if there was no radar and the fog was as thick as pea soup...even if the every one of the lookouts were asleep....even if the most junior officer on the damn ship was OOD....even if there were emergencies all over causing loss of electrical power and alarms wailing all over the ship. I've navigated through a channel with half the engineroom down and exposed in a hailstorm.

You still have sonar. An entire bridge team. Plotters. CBDR for heaven knows how long. C'mon, man. And this isn't just a paint scrape or an embarrassing run-aground. People are hurt and missing.

I'm super-interested in the Lessons Learned off of this one. Though I'm guessing this: Pay attention to previous Lessons Learned and do your job. Complacency kills. Law of Gross Tonnage generally applies.

Plus, the Navy destroyer is a faster and much more maneuverable ship than the 700+’ slow turning, slower running mega container ship that rammed them.

Dog predicts that the Navy is going to issue a statement that North Korea hacked the electronics of the ship, took control, and then placed it in the path of the container ship. Trump will claim that Obama was warned about this vulnerability in the Navy's electronics but refused to give them the necessary funding to fix the problem. This will be declared an act of war by North Korea.

Trump isn't ignoring the deaths of the sailors. He's talked to the leader of Japan all along, and the sailors' names were being withheld until the families were notified.
