If anyone is interested.... I love this site. They provide all kinds of interesting stats.

http://www.82games.com/1516/1516POR.HTM

Couple interesting things:

The 5 man unit that had the highest winning percentage for us last year was McCollum-Crabbe-Harkless-Davis-Leonard with 73.6 win% :smiley-195517897341

The second highest was Lillard-Crabbe-Aminu-Vonleh-Plumlee at 63.1 win%.

The third highest was Lillard-Crabbe-Harkless-Aminu-Plumlee at 58.8 win%.

And the fourth highest was Lillard-McCollum-Harkless-Aminu-Plumlee at 54.8 win%

CJ and Dame can't play together confirmed!!!!

Also interesting -

Dame had a net 4.8 PER over his opponents. So much for his shitty defense, eh?

His on-court/off-court defensive numbers tell a different tale.

Man that Lillard/McCollum/Harkless/Aminu/Plumlee lineup was good. +73 overall in 290 minutes.

Also interesting that McCollum's Simple Rating was higher than Lillard's.

Yes, this was our second most used unit and it did include Lillard and McCollum.

Another thing I saw was that almost all units containing Lillard, Crabbe, Aminu and Plumlee did well, even when Vonleh was included. The only exception was when Henderson was included.

Which is one reason why I've never been against trading CJ...... for the right price.

What might be most interesting is that our unit that was used the most (by far) is pretty much our worst unit. And of course what is different about that unit is that Vonleh is on it.

Super like. I've always loved that site, but feared they were gone forever. Thanks for posting the link.

Leonard is an anomaly. He gets abused by the man he's guarding, but the team plays much better when he's on the court. He only played 33% of the the total minutes, but the twam was +100 when he was on the court. The only one with a higher plus/minus was C.J. who was at +157, but played over twice as many minutes.

This is a prime example of Stotts making the most of the players he's given. He figures out how to use their strengths to maximum advantage while minimizing the impact of their weaknesses.

He's a threat, which isn't something we can say about Plumlee or Vonleh. It's amazing how much easier it is for CJ/Dame when the other team has to defend the center.

For a while there, it was Dame/CJ/Aminu/Vonleh/Plumlee. The other team essentially only has to guard Dame and CJ, and Aminu only some of the time.

Yep, that was our starting 5 for most of the season and they were -9 total points. That doesn't sound like much, but if you look at the unit right below them, with Harkless in place of Vonleh (our starting unit at the end of the year and in the playoffs), they jump up to +73 in less than half the minutes. That illustrates how much Vonleh starting as dragging down this team.

Cool stats, but I wouldn't put too much stock in any except the first 4 lineups because of small sample size. Of those first 4, only our last half of season starters had a +50% win record (it was 54.8%, a 45-win team). Conclusion: Stotts knew what he was doing.

Fun facts if we avoid the sample size issue:
The +50% win lineups were (in order of minutes played together)

Lillard-McCollum-Harkless-Aminu-Plumlee
Lillard-Henderson-Crabbe-Davis-Leonard
McCollum-Crabbe-Harkless-Davis-Leonard
Lillard-Henderson-Crabbe-Harkless-Davis
McCollum-Henderson-Crabbe-Aminu-Davis
Lillard-Crabbe-Aminu-Vonleh-Plumlee
Lillard-Crabbe-Harkless-Aminu-Plumlee
Lillard-McCollum-Aminu-Davis-Leonard

Lillard was in 6 of 8
CJ was in 4 of 8
Harkless was in 4 of 8
Aminu was in 5 of 8
Plumlee was in 3 of 8
Henderson was in 3 of 8
Crabbe was in 6 of 8 (wow!)
Davis was in 5 of 8
Biebs was in 3 of 8

kinda suggesting that Biebs, Henderson, and Plumlee were our weakest links.

Yep, with Leonard, it's all about spacing. He draws a big out of the paint and that makes it easier for Dame and C.J. to drive and finish. If the other team doesn't respect Leonard's shooting and stays home to protect the rim, it's an easy kick out for an open 3. Leonard has his flaws, but the fact that you can't leave him open, makes life easier for everyone else.

So the starters next year should be

Dame
CJ
Crabbe
Aminu
Davis

Confirmed!

Not sure how Leonard was one of our weakest links when the team was +100 with him on the floor.

Vonleh, was clearly, our weakest link at -61.

BNM

I'm honestly not sure how the stats are computed. For example, it says we were +100 with Biebs on the floor, and that somehow converts to a 50% win percentage. Davis was only +20 with a corresponding win% of 51.3. So, the stats are a bit confusing, at least to me.

My understanding is that the win% stat tracks how often a player's individual stint on the floor resulted in a net gain, as contrasted with the cumulative +/- which takes the season as a whole. Similar to how Memphis was a cumulative -184 points on the season but finished 42-40, whereas Utah was +147 on the year but only finished 40-42.

They say that total differential is a better indicator of a team's ability than straight record is, so I'll assume the same is true for individual players.

The Win Percent is the percent of the time we outscore the other team with that lineup, regardless of HOW MUCH we outscored them. If a lineup has three games of +30, -1, -1 the Win Percent is 33.3%, but the lineup is +28 overall.

OK, I'll redo it:
Fun facts if we avoid the sample size issue:
The +10 or more +/- lineups were (in order of minutes played together)

Lillard-McCollum-Harkless-Aminu-Plumlee (+73/290.2 = .252 )
Lillard-McCollum-Crabbe-Aminu-Plumlee (+34/130.9 = .260)
Lillard-Henderson-Crabbe-Davis-Leonard (+39/129.6 = .301)
small sample size:
McCollum-Crabbe-Harkless-Davis-Leonard (+23/96.3 = .239)
Lillard-McCollum-Aminu-Davis-Leonard (+12/40.3 = .298 )

Lillard is in 4 of 5
CJ is in 4 of 5

Harkless is in 2 of 5
Aminu is in 3 of 5
Plumlee is in 2 of 5
Crabbe is in 3 of 5
Biebs is in 2 of 5
Henderson is in 1 of 5
Davis is in 3 of 5

(everyone else, including Vonleh, was in ZERO of our positive lineups.)

Our best lineup in terms of +/- per minute is the bolded one above which outscored our opponents by .301 x 48 = 14.4 points per 48 minutes)

Who wants to put this into article form and post it on Blazersland?

Pretty marginal... 25 points?
Not sure what part of the page you're looking at. I'm talking about his on/off numbers at the bottom of the page.

Defense (points surrendered per 100 possessions): On-court: 110.8 Off-court: 105.9
