Revised to 8.4, offshore, tsunami warning but no tsunami. Good film of an avalanche of dirt and buildings moving inland about 10 mph.

I was watching MSNBC. Isn't a tsunami a wave that travels thousands of miles, like from Japan to Hawaii? I think the word is being misused here. Tokyo says 8.4, but a foreign seismometer says 8.9.

When I lived in Hawaii in the early 60s, they evacuated the parts of Honolulu near the beach on 2 straight Saturday nights due to tsunami fears after Japan earthquakes. No tsunamis materialized.

It's almost ironic that MSNBC is being conservative with their earthquake rating.
