Oregon's Bend has skyrocketed in popularity thanks to its incredible outdoor offerings. The horizon is broken by snow-capped mountains, which provide ample opportunities for hiking in summer and skiing in winter. If you’re looking for adventure, you'll find it here, from whitewater rafting through the center of town to downhill biking on nearby Mount Bachelor. If that’s not enough, Smith Rock State Park, just 30 miles north of the town has hundreds of rock climbing routes. It’s the perfect place to try all sorts of outdoor pursuits, and if one thing doesn’t suit then you can move on to the next without having to go far.

I'm not so sure I'd really want to go back to Bend, though. I hear it's been nearly run over by Californian liberal types over the last number of years.

That's what Prineville is for.....rodeo heaven! It's it's own little red state outside of Bend....you don't want to move to Oregon...not just California liberals...we also have Oregonian liberals, transgendered folks, BLM support groups and hippies galore! Stick to Tennessee and Florida...

They're not exclusive to Oregon. Nonetheless, I'll find my own way. We're actually looking in Central Oregon. I like the Powell Butte area.

I'd say you haven't really found your home then...once you do you stop seeing greener grass elsewhere....good luck with the revolving search for roots...Central Oregon doesn't seem like a place you'd be content ...you should try Idaho or Nebraska...

You probably missed some of my other posts on the matter. We'd be looking at maintaining 3 residences. Nashville, Panama City Beach, FL, and somewhere in the NW closer to family. Most likely, Central Oregon. We'd live roughly 4 months per year in each location - taking advantage of optimum weather.

no...I've read enough to see you have not set real roots and are constantly needing a change of environment...I used to live that way...now my temple is my home...the zen is in being somewhere...not searching for somewhere else...to me all that running around is just wasting energy that can be better used improving my home and food source...it's a lifestyle...not a hotel

Awesome you.

That said, my wife and I don't have any children, so we're rather flexible. We have extended family in Nashville and Oregon/Washington. We want opportunities to see them all on a regular extended basis.

Have inlaws in Prineville and Bend and Redmond...it's pretty much where we go when we get out of our neck of the woods...great fishing

We enjoy Prineville Res. although I just cancelled 3 nights there because low water and no fires.

My nephew just bought 320 acres in Prineville. I have NO idea what he's going to do with it.....development-wise. Who knows, maybe I'll purchase a parcel from him.

I usually go the opposite direction. I prefer to go to the coast to fish. Water so low this year, I haven't even taken our boat out. Seems like a lot of reservoirs you can't even get to the water. Ochoco is crazy low.

My wife and Kids have always enjoyed the swimming area there. This is the first time in a lot of years they didn't even bother going out there.

I live in the coastal range so I fish here alot....sad to hear the water is low...I use to fish Walton Lake east of Prineville and my favorite spots are now inaccessible due to the fires a year ago...I'm thinking of trying Dexter Lake ....never fished there before but folks say it's a good spot...I haven't taken my kayaks out at all this summer

The water is definitely low and sure there is plenty of wildfire damage, but I went camping a few weeks ago at Cove Creek and had a great time.
 
Tell ya what, we're sure enjoying Asheville, NC this time of the year! Perfect Fall spot!
 
We camped at Detroit Lake last week, first time we've been in the area since the fire. They were falling trees and clearing debris big time.
Sad the damage it did to the town. There are signs of rebuilding which is great. We will continue to go there and support the local business's, its still a beautiful place.

Neil Young builds trainsets and has a whole barn filled with them...he's a lifelong collector..but I never knew about Rod....now life is complete! I no longer need worry about Rod's models or lust after them
