Is it just me, or is this a great political ad?

Obama also voted to continue spending in Iraq...TWICE.

Plus, I imagine Obama has "voted with Bush" many times the past two years considering his party has controlled legislation and Bush has signed their bills into law.

Whoops...red meat for the dullards.

AD - Obama voted twice with Bush to continue funding the Iraq War. True or false?

Daaaaaang. Having McCain say he's not Bush at the beginning of the ad, and then having him tout his voting record of Bush at the end of the ad draws a really nice contrast.

Not only does it tie McCain to Bush, but it has the added benefit of making him appear erratic and inconsistent.

In one ad it combines both of McCain's greatest weaknesses: Bush and McCain's own lack of consistency.

Quoting McCain himself on voting along with Bush, and saying it was higher than his own Republican colleagues, was the master stroke of that ad. So much for "maverick." Even McCain disputes that.

How often has Obama "voted with Bush" on Iraq? Or on any legislation?

Barack Obama Says He Voted With President Bush "For The Most Part." REPORTER: "For a couple of days, they've been saying you voted to raise taxes something like 94 times. That seems to be the drumbeat that's going to happen during this campaign. Are you going to raise taxes in a big way for average Americans?" OBAMA: "I mean this is the standard fare of politics. And the truth of the matter is that the only bills that I voted for, for the most part, since I've been in the Senate were introduced by Republicans with George Bush. You know, they were the majority for a big chunk of the time I was there." (KMOV [St. Louis, MO], 6/10/08)

Emailing the McCain camp right now...

In 2005, Barack Obama Joined With President Bush To Pass The Bush-Cheney Energy Bill Giving The Oil Companies $2.8 Billion In Taxpayer Money:

Barack Obama Voted For The 2005 Energy Bill. (H.R. 6, CQ Vote #152: Motion Agreed To 92-4: R 53-1; D 38-3; I 1-0, 6/23/05, Obama Voted Yea; H.R. 6, CQ Vote #158: Passed 85-12: R 49-5; D 35-7; I 1-0, 6/28/05, Obama Voted Yea; H.R. 6, CQ Vote #213: Adopted 74-26: R 49-6; D 25-19; I 0-1, 7/29/05, Obama Voted Yea)

The 2005 Energy Bill Included $2.8 Billion In Subsidies For Oil And Natural Gas Production. "The conference agreement provides for $14.6 billion in tax breaks and credits between 2005 and 2015, including: -- $2.8 billion for fossil fuel production..." (Toni Johnson, "CQ Bill Analysis: HR 6," Congressional Quarterly's "CQ Bill Analysis," www.cq.com, Accessed 7/14/08)

John McCain Voted Against The 2005 Energy Bill. (H.R. 6, CQ Vote #152: Motion Agreed To 92-4: R 53-1; D 38-3; I 1-0, 6/23/05, McCain Voted Nay; H.R. 6, CQ Vote #158: Passed 85-12: R 49-5; D 35-7; I 1-0, 6/28/05, McCain Voted Nay; H.R. 6, CQ Vote #213: Adopted 74-26: R 49-6; D 25-19; I 0-1, 7/29/05, McCain Voted Nay)

John McCain Criticized The 2005 Energy Bill's "Handouts To Big Business And Oil Companies," Calling Them Irresponsible. McCain: "This bill does little to address the immediate energy crisis we face in this country. The handouts to big business and oil companies are irresponsible and will be disastrous for people of Arizona. I cannot in good conscience, vote to pass legislation that does not adequately address issues related to energy efficiency, security, and energy independence." (Sen. John McCain, "McCain, Kyl Say No To Flawed Energy Bill," Press Release, 6/28/05)

Hmm...interesting...

I don't know. Which is the point. In terms of electionering, Obama is successfully tying McCain to Bush. Political ads aren't about deep truth...you were the one lauding that deceptive ad by McCain where he just cut together four sound bites of Obama saying "I agree with John on this." Why not so congratulatory to Obama on this one? The only difference is this didn't look as amateurish as that one. ;)

Also, Obama didn't style himself a "maverick." When you run on bucking the establishment and then are quoted proudly saying that you voted with the establishment more than anyone else, it's pretty bad news.

Well they don't mention that McCain was out campaigning and that he missed over 60 percent of the votes in 2007.

I wonder if this were Obama that would be mentioned.

He might have voted with Bush 90 percent of the time, but that does not necessarily mean that McCain agreed with Bush 90 percent of the time.

But I thought the republicans were the only party to run attack ads. :dunno:

The last couple of election cycles, they were (by and large). And guess who won?

Clinton ran attack ads. Obama is running attack ads.

They are the only party to run attack ads as 100% of their ads, yes.

Sad, I know.

Funny, I am in CO right now and there are tons of McCain ads that don't even mention Obama nor are in any way, shape or form negative.
