you didn't, i just went on a tangent. Something in your post triggers a train of thought.I don’t recall saying that being a cop is the only dangerous job.

I was a "cop" for 5 years.
So only rich people who can afford college should be cops?Nope.
4 years of college will weed out the ones who don't even want to go through that much work to get to be a cop. And those who do go through the four years and start making 80K+ won't do something stupid to lose that job.
Figure this shit out y'all...
WE, ARE, THE 99 PERCENT!Y'all don't seem to make sense. There's another Thread about police officers were a bunch of y'all come in here and say oh "ninety-nine percent of officers are good". I'm simply calling bullshit on that. So get the fuck out of here with these 99% numbers because they are a load of crap.
Like I said even 99% of pussy isn't good.
We've had the justice department show that there has been systemic racism in a few different police departments. Look it up.
Try the i have a black friend approach. It's kind of like the i know 700 referees approach. This had nothing to do with being black so don't make it about that. Dviss previously called me a dumbass in this thread. Not that I give a fuck but he needs to grow up. He constantly says outrageous shit with no points behind it. Same thing here. Whats his fucking point? wow 99 percent of police officers aren't great. Common knowledge. "I know 700 referees". Okay yeah I am sure you do and know each and every one of them. Dviss makes his OT post history off being the victim and blaming white people and cops for his problems when in reality he is pretty privileged himself so I don't wanna hear that dumb race card shit pulled, I don't even know why you are pulling it when the subject isn't even about black people. It's just about cops.

It might interest you to know that FBI data shows, "118 law enforcement officers were killed in line-of-duty incidents in 2016. Of these, 66 law enforcement officers died as a result of felonious acts, and 52 officers died in accidents. In addition, 57,180 officers were victims of line-of-duty assaults."

I don't know about you, but I've never been assaulted on any of my jobs. I'd consider a career field to be dangerous where something like 5 to 6 percent of the people doing it get assaulted. That number doesn't include those who were injured in the line of duty doing things that we desk jockeys don't have any risk of having to do.
Yes, thanks for bringing it to my attention. I'll clean up a few posts in this thread later.Personal insult. @SlyPokerDog ?

No it's not at all.
How many referees are in Portland? That's right, you don't know.
Well, I know ALL of them. Personally. The last 15 years, I've refereed 400+ games per year. I'm well past hour number 8000 of my 10,000 hours of mastering my craft and because of that, I've refereed with most of them.
Yup. And I have every one of them in my phone. I can literally call and talk to any Portland/Metro/Salem referee. So It's not about the idiotic post you made of "having a black friend".
No, I've actually WORKED with these people. Remember this next time you decided to post stupid things.
Quantify that number please. Aggressive officers are going to claim they were assaulted...
Ever see a cop on top of a guy while saying "stop resisting"?
Resisting arrest when you don't have a reason to arrest or detain? This shit happens all the time.
My only point with that stat is that it’s a dangerous job. What percentage of those assaults are bogus or a result of a cop initiating the action? Obviously, there’s no data available on that, or at least none that wouldn’t be suspect.
I’m not here to dispute your assertion that there are too many bad cops. I don’t know what the number is, but anything over zero is troubling and needs to be addressed.
You don’t trust cops, and you can point to all kinds of examples to support your case. I’m not going to dispute a bit of that. But the equally obvious truth is that we need cops to do the job of enforcing laws and protecting the law-abiding public. The question is how can we get our police forces to clean up their acts? Demonstrations have called attention to the problem, but too much of that just causes the cops to close ranks and stonewall legitimate concerns. We need to push for appropriate leadership in the police departments and work with those folks to adopt strong policies to reduce abuse and to ferret out the bad cops who need to be fired.

EXCELLENT post.
With all the college educated people in todays society doing bad things.
I'm not sure a 4 year degree + 100k salary is really going to be an incentive for a police officer to not be a bad person.
In fact I think the more money you throw at a police officer. The more likely people will think they can get away with being bad people.
This is just flat out wrong IMO.
People that are paid better perform better. There's a huge difference between a Portland Parks & Rec Referee, and a PBOA ref. One is being paid $15 per game the other is being paid $67.25 per.
The ones that are paid a higher wage have MUCH more training, are CONSTANTLY monitored, and are simply better officials because of that. You pay $15 for a ref, you'll get a $15 ref.
Again, would you want to lose your $100K a year job for making a stupid decision when you are wearing a body cam?
Again, would you want to lose your $100K a year job for making a stupid decision when you are wearing a body cam?
Also this is a dumb question. As I don't need to be paid x to not be a bad person.
Paying a bad person x to not be a bad person won't change them. They'll use that money in bad ways. See Clinton. See the famous movie producer. See so many others not famous.
Maybe YOU wouldn't jeopardize 100k a year. But you're also not a bad person right?
@SlyPokerDog is a little hard headed, but we all can be at times.
You can think the question is dumb all you want and you are only looking through your perspective. I however, think it's a very relevant one.
Why do you think it's relevant?
Why do you think money, education, being monitored would change bad people?
When we've had so many bad people in professions that are monitored, have a 6, 7, 8 or 9 figure salary, with multiple degrees.
Only to show they bribe, cheat, steal, murder, etc. Their way out of trouble.
All I'm saying is expecting those three things to be a deterrent for bad people.
When it hasn't been a deterrent for bad people in other professions is just making the same mistake over and over again.
I can do what you do too see.
You can think people perform better with a better salary, education, and monitoring. But you're only looking through your perspective.
You know the perspective of a good person.
Nope.

I've never asserted or even insinuated this. What I said was:
This means that if you really want to be a cop, you don't just graduate from high school, 16 weeks, then you're badged and gunned up.
YOU REALLY WANT TO BE A COP!!
