9th-grader arrested after taking homemade bomb to school

Actually the morons are the people who think that this device made by an Ahmed Muhamad:

0916ahmedclock

Will never ever be mistaken for a bomb.

I have never, ever, ever, ever, EVER seen a bomb with a power cord. Have you? I guess I forgot the part where the terrorist plugs his bomb into the wall.

1. If it was considered a possible explosive device, why wasn't a bomb squad called in? Clearly they either didn't think it was a real threat or they did not follow protocol to evacuate the school in the case of a bomb threat. But maybe just being "Ahmed Muhamad" is enough of a threat?

2. If that looks like a bomb, do you think that cellphones look like bombs too? Terrorists often use cellphones as improvised explosive devices. And no, you not being Tony Starks and not knowing the inner-workings of an explosive device should not give you excuses to make ignorant comments.

And that's just it.

They didn't evacuate the school.

They didn't call the bomb squad.

Nobody actually thought this was a bomb. This is as stupid as a kid being suspended for making his hand in the shape of a gun. The school and the police are giving this kid a hard time because he's Muslim and because they thought the clock COULD be misidentified as a bomb. That's it. Then again, the kid who's being charged for assault because he kissed a girl is probably in deeper shit than this kid.

Got it. Power cord present = can't ever be a bomb ever. No matter what

I believe the forgotten lesson in this sad episode is, the police are now doing their jobs while scared. The local police are now part of the war on terrorism, and they do not know how to handle it yet. Plus physical attacks and shootings of police officers by crazy citizens are increasing.

I have had two recent friendly casual encounters with local police officers that left me scratching my head. I felt the officers overracted defensively both times. So I tried to put myself into their shoes. The bottom line is, I would not want their job right now.

I am not defending what was done to Ahmed by the police. A mistake was made. I believe the problems we are now facing with adjusting to the war on terrorism are much bigger than many realize. Sadly, more mistakes are going to be made, that is part of being human working through changing times. I just hope we learn from them.

You're saying because of the stereotypical Hollywood bomb, he should have known better.. I'm just saying that I've never seen any bomb in any movie with a power cord :dunno:

Got it.

Me = Sees what looks like a bomb as depicted on TV, errs on the side of caution and kind of freaks out.

You = Sees that it has a power cord, therefore rules it out as being a bomb. Continues on with your day.

If a kid brings a toy gun but has one of those orange tabs on it, do you think the school will call a SWAT team? No, although it looks like a gun, even if they determine its not a gun, they'll probably still suspend the kid because it appears to be a gun and that's good enough for them. I don't know exactly what the process is here, but

Cellphones that are DISGUISED as bombs are just that. DISGUISED. Meaning the terrorist made a concerted effort to hide what the bomb to avert detection. The aluminum cased suitcase bombs aren't like that, the case is a conveyance.

My assumption was wrong, but I am happy with the good news. Thank you for correcting my unintentional mistake.

People disrespecting or being willfully hostile to law enforcement maybe (probably) is going up, but the narrative that they are now violently under siege is a false one.

I just finished reading a fictional book that had terrorist bombs that where plugged into the electric wirings of buildings. The electricity maintained the batteries used to set the bombs off, and power the antenna receiving unit used to activate the bomb. That way a bomb could be hidden for many years in or near a building without detection, then set off remotely, even if the electricity was off.

What about the "Ahmed Muhamad" part? Seems like his name will also be a contributing factor in your freaks out, too.

Look, I wouldn't give two shits if you have your freaks out and run around like a little bitch. What you can't do is go up to a person (or if you're also nervous to confront, use the police) and harass them because their names and clocks scared you. And this is what some people at that school did to that kid.

You have a right to live in fear, but your fear doesn't give you the right to impinge on people's rights.

Well, if you look at it this way, maybe asses shouldn't be ruled out as explosive devices either. Since, you know, dangerous gases and all.
Yeah but when I hear "suitcase nukes" the first name i think is Ahmed. Thank that cracka Kiefer Sutherland

Okay so you hear that... What is it that you do though?

I'm pretty sure the terrorist who tried to blow up Quahog in family was also named Ahmed.

Ahmed's father just delivered pizza bombs to the press outside their home! :MARIS61:

I read Ahmed's dad is some muslim activist lawyer. :MARIS61:

I'm pretty sure most schools ban bb guns/toy guns. Unless digital clock suitcases (science project for a class) are banned too, I failed to understand your comparison here.

Suspending students that brought toy guns to school = Justified suspension, in most cases.
Suspending students that brought digital clocks (as part of their science class) = Idiotic.

No, I'm talking about cellphones that are actual explosive devices. The BOMBS are DISGUISED as CELLPHONES just as the bombs that are DISGUISED as suitcases. The casing of the cellphones carry the explosive components and to disguise the bomb, just as the suitcase casing is used to carry the explosive components and to disguise the bomb. The difference being the suitcase has the capacity to carry more explosives.

Its not merely a digital clock, its an electronic apparatus that looks very similar looking to a bomb.

Bombs are not disguised as suitcases. They are just how they carry them around.

Ahmed's next science project:

Its a personal cooling fan, designed to keep you cool in the hot sun with several working fans!

A typical microwave oven uses more electricity powering its digital clock than it does heating food.

Ahmed Mohamed did a long interview, along with his attorney, on Now with Chris Hayes. He said he showed the clock to 3 teachers, the first was fine, the second said keep it under wraps in case someone thinks it's a bomb, and the third said she was confiscating it for the day. If you think something is a bomb, you don't stick it in the teacher's desk for the remainder of the school day! But he didn't think a lot about it until he was called in and interrogated by a number of cops for over an hour. He is 14 so entitled to have a parent or guardian present, and certainly an attorney. He said he repeatedly asked to have his parents called and the cops told him he could not have his parents because he was being interrogated. He was then taken away in handcuffs. Only then were his parents called. He was also suspended for 3 days, apparently for being smarter than dumbasses at the school and police department. The cops justified it by saying he could not really answer their questions, they kept asking him what the device was and he kept saying it was a clock. Because, of course, it WAS a clock.

Ahmed also said he has been subject to abuse because of his name/national origin/religion, he has been called "terrorist" and "bomber" by other kids, but did not expect that so called responsible adults would act like this (where do the kids learn it from?) He was clearly scared and hurt, as he had a right to be. He should have been applauded and probably would have been had he been a white kid named Robert Smith.

I'm glad to see that there are some adults in the country who recognize talent and innovation. President Obama has invited him to a White House session on space science and asked him to bring his cool clock, Mark Zuckerberg invited him to Facebook. Ahmed had expressed an interest in going to MIT and a physics professor at MIT said she is inviting him there, as is Harvard.

Some see terrorist, others see the future of America.

The title of this thread is horrible. I think it should be changed. If he were White he wouldn't be in this situation.
You think they would've called the police? I don't think so for one second...

If he was white, this wouldn't even be a story at all even if he got expelled. The fact that he's muslim and everyone's quick to suck on Islam's dick is why this story is out there. You think Obama would tweet about this if he was white? You think everyone would be falling over each other showing their support to show how tolerant they are of white culture? That's what this story comes down to. Some people are fearful of islam so they freak out. Some people want to show they are progressive and tolerable and support muslims, so they go overboard with the overeager support. Some people see it for what it is, a device that looks like what a bomb would look like and dumb idea to bring to school, especially since something like this what people think about when they think about the end game of radical islam.

You'll never get into the PC Bro fraternity.

When I was in high school, there were several fake bomb threats called in and the school was evacuated both times. If they were really concerned, why wasn't the school evacuated? Shitty cops/teachers?
