Via Ch.8 Sports Sunday -- Buchanan's exit interview:

Coach:

-Defensive minded

PG:

-Close to LMA's age; wants the PG to grow with the core

So, this basically eliminates D'Antoni and Steve Nash.

Dragic or DWill and SVG or Budenholzer seem like the most logical choices.

Budenholzer would be my first choice, I just can't stomach SVG's offense. Learning under Pop bodes well for him as well.

DWill should be priority #1 but that's obviously a long-shot. Does Dragic turn things around? I'm not so sure about that.

What about JVG instead of SVG?

It sounds like the Blazers are aerious about thinking they can reload instead of rebuild, so this draft should involve trading our pick

Does reloading require trading the picks? If we were able to get someone like Beal, I'm thinking he could contribute right away. I would try to move Wes though, if that were the case. Maybe Wes and the #11 for something that helps us. Getting another project big man doesn't really thrill me. Maybe Wes and the 11th for Favors? I don't see how Utah can hold onto all the bigs they have. Milsap, Favors, Al-Jeff, Kanter... something is going to have to give. I'd love to get Kanter or Favors.

I still think we've got a shot at Deron.

Sounds to me like the Blazers think it does.

Reading things like wanting a PG around LA's age to grow with the core. That sounds like they want to use our pick to help acquire vets. Sacrifice bunting instead of swinging for the fences

Fez, tell me more about Budenholzer?

Wondering if Rondo could be had for both picks and Wes.

Possibly add Lowry to the mix for one of our picks IF the Rockets think they will keep Dragic

I'm not sure how clear of a picture about the Blazers' future we can get from the exit interview of an interim GM who will in all likelihood be replaced prior to this summer.

The Blazers have gone the route of having a "headcase" leader who has the potential to adversely affect the teams chances on any given night. After yesterday's chest bump of an official, I'd prefer all discussions involving Rondo to end, I don't ever want to see a reincarnation of Sheed appear on this roster again. You can never be sure of what detrimental acts he'll pull on any given night, and one stupid move can cost the team a playoff series.

No Marshall....

There are 9 players ranked in the top 5 of thier perspective high school class in this draft alone, 15 that were ranked in the top 10...the correlation b\t top 5 high school talent\rankings and top NBA players is pretty strong odds wise in relation to other methods....POR needs to take 2 swings at obtaining that elite level talent...even if they just hit on one of them this team will be FAR better off than drafting for need or taking a player (Marshall) whose best case scenario is a poor man's Jason Kidd....

The picture I get is Larry Miller is still calling all the shots and will sabotage any chance of us getting a strong GM by not allowing the future GM to choose his own coach.

PA will never change, and this team will never win a title as long as PA will never change.

When Nate was fired, I remember hearing Larry boy say something like they'd like to hire a GM before a coach, but if the right candidate came along, they'd jump at the coach first.

As soon as he said that, I thought to myself that he was still going to be calling the shots, regardless of a GM or not

I think you are looking at the wrong picture. IMO they are looking for an experienced GM. They would have hired Steve Kerr if he wanted it. Settling for an average GM just so that can quickly get a coach would be stupid. You guys know nothing about Larry Miller's agenda. Neither do I, but I am not pretending to.

Don't be surprised if Buchanan gets the job full time. I really don't see anyone willing to be a figure head that has any real GM skill

That's for sure. Until they get a new GM anything that anyone says is meaningless.

And if it isn't that means that the GM position is meaningless as someone higher up is making all the decisions. Which makes me sort of hopeless because it means that same people that got us into this mess are gonna try to get us out, which is ridiculous.

Was KP a figure head? Or did Larry Miller really make all those moves? You guys sound like Canzano when he "guaranteed" Bob Whitsitt would be calling the shots from Seattle after he was fired.

Hiring Buchanan as full-time GM would be a huge mistake.

What has he done to even qualify? The moves that he help make, we all know Larry Miller had a big role in this, were atrocious.

Most Blazer fans hated the Felton move last summer. He was a downgrade over Miller but he was younger so they made that horrible deal.

They were one of the only teams to have Nolan Smith projected in the first round. He looks like he's destined for Europe.

JUST SAY NO TO CHAD BUCHANAN!

Again, not true...most fans were saying he was "a better fit" and were constantly making the point that Miller isn't a threat from deep so weren't too big of fans of keeping with the status quo.
