A guard, a wing, and a big

The Wiz have to choose between Ariza, Webster and Otto Porter. I wonder if they'll want to commit to Ariza long term. If they do, does that mean they're giving up on Porter? I'd be intrigued by him as a glue-guy wing. It would be surprising if he were a total bust.

Seems like the likely move would be keeping Ariza and Porter, if Webster indeed had surgery. If they are giving up on Porter this early, they'd have to have seen something to conclude he was a bust.

Also, I don't understand the occasional mentions of picking up Chalmers. He plays with the best starting unit in the NBA and is mediocre at best. The Blazers probably need a combo guard if they replace Mo Williams, someone who can be counted upon to score because there aren't any scorers on that second team (barring some major progress from someone). Chalmers would be such a downgrade from Mo, and Mo drove me crazy.

I'd like Webster back.

Please don't bring Chalmers here.

You may laugh, but Vince Carter would help this team a lot.

MLE: Collison or Isiah Thomas

BAE: As Brian said, Vince Carter.

Then try to get Jermaine to come back for the minimum, didn't he say he wanted to come back here before signing with GS?

I am hoping for defense.

Okafor, Marion , Aminu

Not sure how to get one or two of them though

Here are mine:

PG - Ramon Sessions (BAE): There are point guards that I would rather sign like Livingston and Chalmers, but I think Sessions is still a good point guard and I think he could be had for the BAE. He can score, he can pass, and he's a bigger point guard at 6'3.

Wing - Martell Webster (trade): The Wiz will probably re-sign Ariza for a substantial contract and Tell has sorta faded into the background. I would try to make a small trade to reacquire Martell for our bench. I think he'd be great off our bench. Maybe send them Claver and Wright so they can clear him off their books. Both those guys are expiring deals after next season.

Big - Pau Gasol (MLE): Supposedly Pau wants to win, and he's willing to take less money. I think he'd be a great addition. He can play both frontcourt positions and he's a winner. I think coming back to a winner would help restart his career.

I would love to get Martel back! Vince Carter would be another good choice along with Marion.

MLE - Greivis Vasques - bigger point guard so Damian can play off the ball some
BAE - Thabo Sefalosha - hopefully he can start hitting threes at a 40% clip again and keep playing D
Vet Min - Jermaine Oneil - Come home and play some D Jerm!

Maybe sign and trade Dorell Wright for Sefalosha

Gasol, Deng, Hawes seems like a pipe dream at the MLE in my opinion. Of course we'd love to get one of them but I don't see it as very realistic.

I suppose a more realistic possibility is the Lakers striking out on veteran free agents then trading us Pau in some sort of sign and trade where we give up a first round pick.

Marion, Marvin Williams, Okafor, Jason Smith, Ekpe Udoh are intriguing additions to me. When looking at PG I'd probably like to see us add a cheaper 3rd string veteran PG such as Ridnour or Udrih. Chalmers is interesting since he can shoot and defend while his value is at an all time low but still not sure how realistic him being a backup here is. Sessions has been a solid possible addition for years but I don't see how he would fit here with his mediocre 3pt shooting. Same with Livingston or even to an extent Deng.

Management has said since we now have a system in place its more about finding players who fit that system. Court spacing with 3 point shooting and individual one-on-one defense are the main parts of what we've been doing. So maybe those are the players we target? Stotts has also said the main area of improvement needs to be defense so are we going to go with that focus in free agency? Its easy for us to come up with players we'd add in a vacuum from a pure production standpoint but this summer the Blazers are at more of a cross roads than I can remember where individual talent is less important than complementing the rest of the team.

One thing Neil is going to be cautious with is multi-year contracts. We don't have anyone except Batum and rookies signed beyond next season. Until we have our starters locked up it doesn't make sense to blow tons of money on an MLE bench player. If we have to settle for a slightly inferior player but can have him on a one year contract at the full MLE I think Olshey will lean that direction.

Yeah, that's why I was thinking that trade could work. Do a sign-and-trade for Diaw at roughly 3 years / $15 million and trade them Wright/Claver. I think those two players would do very well in San Antonio. They're exactly the kind of players that Pop loves to bring in.

Pop likes people with talent your wrong

Only 2 rosters spots open.

I don't follow around the league enough, but I'm hoping we get a steal for each the MLE and BAE because a player wants to go to a winning team. I would love Gasol, but if Gasol takes less money than he is worth (MLE), I could see him going to Memphis to go with his brother or some team that is more considered a contender than the Blazers.

If Claver decides he wants to go back to Europe, does he come off the book for the Blazers?

Guard: Isaiah Thomas -- A huge upgrade over Mo. Possible s&t candidate?

Wing: CJ Miles -- near 40% from three and showed overall improvement in CLE.

Big: Josh McRoberts -- Has the skillset to flourish in the Stotts system. Cheap alternative: defensive-minded Cole Aldrich, purely for insurance.

Clavier can't just "decide" he wants to go to Europe; he's under contract with the Blazers and FIBA recognizes NBA contracts. If he wants a buyout I bet the Blazers would be interested in negotiating one but both parties would have to agree to part ways and the $$$ that Clavier should receive. The Blazers would only have the $$$ they actually pay Clavier on the cap so it could be less than his $1.3 million. His salary doesn't effect any transactions the team does it only saves Paul Allen money.

This doesn't really improve the team. You love thomas now. Wait til he's on your team chuckin up shots.

Did you even bother to look at his shooting percentage?

He can shoot and finishes really well at the hoop.

Like Barea in Dallas, Stotts will know how to use him.

I would be ok with going after Marvin Williams. He would needs minutes so Nic would have to get minutes at SG. (with the 2nd unit) Although he did not play well in the few times I saw him with the 2nd unit last year I still think it could work. He just has to stop making tough passes to certain player. He could take some pressure off CJ if the Blazers really think they can play with out a true PG.

CJ, Batum, Marvin, TRob and Joel is not a bad bench. You then have a combination of Claver, Will, Crabbe, Wright and Leonard to trade for a back up big,. Then use the BAE for Rid.

Okay so to fit into the rules we have the MLE/BAE and min so with that i'll go with

Blake BAE: BRING BLAKE BACK! Blake can run an offense and shoot the three and isn't prone to turning the ball over. We wont' see him over dribble but he can't create his own shot but I always love to have a vet who isn't afraid to get into teammates and opposing players faces

Marion MLE: Great defender still at his age and can still score. Not a great 3p shooter but he can at least hit it.

O'neal vet min: This is more just to see him back in a Blazer uniform. He would be fine for 8-10m off the bench but if we have to rely on him for more then that over a period of time we are pretty screwed.
