My mom was a ninja master with a wooden spoon. She broke a couple of those on my ass.

When I was about 8 I figured out that if I turned around and looked at my Mom in the eyes while she spanked me she'd quickly stop. She'd start crying and blaming herself for my bad behavior, which I didn't like, but at least I wasn't getting hit. It did make me reflect/think which was probably important baby steps towards growing up and even building the relationship we now have as adults. I'd never think of trying the eye thing on Pops.

My sisters and I got hit with belts, a special wooden paddle that was there for nothing but spanking (which eventually broke on my sister), tree branches, my whiffle ball bat while we were camping, and electrical chords. I don't blame my parents, as that is how they were raised and tought to deal with children. But, all of that was completely useless and damaging. Sometime, my mom would just have me sit against a wall for a period of time, where I was unable to talk or move. That was way more effective. I don't really hold anything against them, but that was the wrong way to deal with things. Honestly.

Completely disagree. I've spanked my kids like once each in 12 years. Three swift whacks with a belt and didn't even draw back very far. I hated it, but knew the "act" was necessary.

Drove them crazy. Then, one day, Peter (the father) had had enough and applied a firm swat on the seat of the kid's pants (the boy was 4 at the time). Instant change of behavior. There is now peace in the household. The boy is doing great......as are the rest of the family.

McALLEN, Texas (AP) — A Texas family law judge says his daughter posted a YouTube video of him beating her several years ago because he told her he was reducing her financial support and taking away her Mercedes.

Aransas County Court-at-Law Judge William Adams issued a statement through his lawyer on Thursday in which he questions his daughter Hillary's motives for posting the secretly-made 2004 video online last week.

The judge does not apologize in the three-page statement for lashing his then 16-year-old daughter 17 times with a belt while she wailed and pleaded with him to stop. He told a TV station Wednesday that the video "looks worse than it is" and that he was just disciplining his child.

Police are investigating and Adams says he will "respond" to any investigations.

Watched the video last night and the belt whipping was excessive. But I do agree that a parent can use a belt. But I think what bothered me more was watching the aftermath video interview with the girl and the mother. Being through some terrible "custody battles"; you can see that the mother and daughter were trying to get publicity. They wanted their 10 minutes of fame. And it was almost like this was "staged" too. She put up a greater fight so her dad would get even more angry. He just wanted her to lay on the bed to take her punishment. She refused and kept refusing until he was so upset, he lost control.

Also, she was 16; which I think is way too old to whip with a belt. I would have just gone in her room, unplugged her computer and taken it away from her for a few months.
