A message to the left from the left

I'm a minute in, is he mansplaining this or whitesplaining? I'll finish and see.

The regressive left does need to be banished to the dustbin of history -- as much as alt-right white nationalism and bigotry of all kinds.

All of these puritanical movements are a threat to discourse and civil society and need to be resisted, but from within their own coalitions. When it's reduced to right versus left people double down and become even more extreme in their views.

Fucking brilliant, its exactly what I have been saying since the beginning of the primaries. I'm going (or should) post this on every facebook feed where Clinton supporters are trying to blame Bernie Bros still. I just had a conversation with someone who says anyone who didn't vote for Clinton didn't do so because of lack of education, they were to lazy, or they were to stoned. Fuck all of them.

He's right though. I didn't support Trump, but I honestly feel like I can't speak my mind in Portland. I felt that way at PSU. I feel that way on facebook because I have liberal friends. I posted that I was annoyed about the protests and someone unfriended me and blocked me. That's all that I said. That I was annoyed with the protests because they were fucking up my commute. I imagine a lot of people voted for Trump for a lot of different reasons. Take mags as a perfect example. His daughter is a lesbian. He lives in California. He's not your average racist, bigoted Republican that everyone seems to make Trump voters out to be, and yet he was a fierce supporter of Trump. To dismiss all of the people who voted for him as bigots and racists is to completely misunderstand why Trump won. That's essentially what this video is saying, and I agree.

It may be a semi-satirical character but it's tough to fake that kind of disgust.

Anyway, I just thought this spoke a certain kind of truth that people ought to give a listen.

Yep. Until both 'teams' can stop looking at each other as opponents and realize we all live in the same country it's only going to get worse. We're going to destroy ourselves from within unless people can become more understanding of the other side and start to work on making concessions and compromise. The answer for democrats at the moment is not to become more extreme, but less. People can bitch about the government all the want, but at the moment the people are the problem - both the hate crimes and the protests/riots. It's not helping anyone, it's escalating the problem. It's just making those with differing opinions dislike you even more. And around and around we go.

Neither side seems remotely capable of doing that though, so we're all fucked. Cheers.

I just want to be able to say "Hey baby" like Butthead from MTV to 30 year old women now that I'm over 40.

Is that too much to ask?

The powers that be have intentionally chosen highly contentious topics to get behind. Things like gay marriage, abortion, death penalty, gun rights, etc. These are issues that most people are unwilling to see a middle ground. This distracts people from looking at things like the economy, or defense budget, or education, or healthcare.

Wow, someone who actually understands even if it was a character. Thanks for sharing. Pretty much every reason why I voted Trump.

AND it's not the left telling you to be ashamed for voting for Trump,

You ARE ashamed!

AND, I'd say almost half of the people who voted for Clinton, wanted another candidate but again, she was thrust upon them. Clinton had almost 60% negative ratings.

Ha! Now this is a lefty I can agree with. Except I support Trump! He was the only one supportable.
I kind a like the label, Mr. Deplorable.

Finally. Fucking spot on.

Written by a Liberal who comes from the "small town". Beautifully written.

I'm 25% Hispanic, the descendant of a Mexican Immigrant. I'm also a Bisexual man. And I voted for Trump without a second thought. It had nothing to do with his race or anyone else's race. That's a cop-out for fools to throw more labels and excuses at someone with.

If it's one thing I can say is that I think, after Obama got elected, the Right had a LOT of soul-searching to do. They had to decide to set aside their feelings on gay marriage and weed, and focus on the Government instead. And that's exactly what they've done.

Oh sure, a few Republicans still moan about gays and weed, but....look at all the weed initiatives that passed recently in deep Republican territory.

I think they finally GET it. And it shows that they learned their lessons. They won.

Same here. Obama called us "Bitter Clingers", Hillary called us "Deplorables", the media and celebrities called us "Racist", and Harry Reid called us "White Supremacist".

Then Trump came along and called us "Americans".

To me, it was a no-brainer. Trump all the way.

AND it's not the left telling you to be ashamed for voting for Trump,

You ARE ashamed!

Nope. If anything, whenever I see a comment like this, I smile and pat myself on the back; knowing that I made the right choice.

Trump appreciates your support.

Viewing each other as opponents in the political arena began with Jefferson and his allies in the media attacking John Adams. It worked, he won.

John Adams

John Adams initiated and signed into law, the first Sedition act.
In enforcing this law, he ushered in the beginning of Rock n Roll.

"Of the four acts, the Sedition Act was the most distressing to staunch First Amendment advocates. They objected to the fact that treasonable activity was vaguely defined, was defined at the discretion of the president and would be punished by heavy fines and imprisonment. The arrest and imprisonment of 25 men for supposedly violating the Sedition Act ignited an enormous outcry against the legislation. Among those arrested was Benjamin Franklin’s grandson, Benjamin Franklin Bache, who was the editor of the Republican-leaning Philadelphia Democrat-Republican Aurora."

Watch this video. It's a really interesting way how editing has been used to make Trump look worse than he is. I'm not a supporter of Trump, but this is the kind of bullshit manipulation that is going unchecked right now.

make Trump look worse
sorry, no matter what folks want to blame on the media...Trump single handedly made himself look worse day in and day out.....now he's humbled because he just got buried in real responsibility and surrounded by much smarter folks than he spouted he was....he's eating crow and backtracking on a lot of his campaign schpiel even now......making Trump look bad just took listening to him give a speech...even for the most objective listener

You didn't get the point. Why are organizations splicing together his speeches to make him look even more bigoted?

You'd have to ask them...but Trump came out punching out of the gate....the media from my view started counterpunching...I'm saying he threw the first punches and in several directions...this and it's no secret he alienated some powerful old school money in DC....he made a messy bed from the start..why they splice bloopers together....they get clicks.....they fill the 4 hour window of news hunger that never stops looking for the next click. Then 4 hours later it's another one....and on and on...Trump could blame his own twitter account on a lot of this
