Just curious, how do you think a young Damon Stoudamire would be next to Brandon Roy?

I hated the over-dribbling from Damon but his scoring ability and quickness would fit in well with Roy, Imo.

he'd probably be jealous of not being the man, go to Jason Quick and make up rumors about Roy.
 
He liked to dominate the ball even in his prime. He took a lot of shots at a low percentage in his prime. He was a lousy defender in his prime.

There aren't many point guards who'd look bad next to Roy, because Roy's versatility complements most holes in a PG's game. That said, there were so many holes in Stoudamire's game that I'd rather just have Steve Blake.
 
Damon was quick, but couldn't really score inside. He had like no vertical and was only 5-9. He's also a career 35% 3 PT shooter, 40% from the field. Not too great. He was also not a great PG, only mustering about 6 assists a game.

One thing he WAS good at was pushing the ball up the court and leading the fast break. He threw a great ally-opp pass. For that reason he may have been a slight upgrade over Blake, but not for the 12 million a year we were paying him.

How would a young Clyde fit in with Roy and Aldridge at this point?

Stoudamire wasn't really any better than Blake thanks to his inefficient shooting and defense that was even worse than Blake's. And that's just as an individual player. His effect on team offense was negative, while Blake is neutral...he basically gets the ball to Roy or Aldridge and gets out of the way.

Stoudamire was capable of flashy plays and impressive games, but overall he was wildly overrated even in his prime. I would definitely not want him back. He was fairly good in Toronto as the only option, but he was unable to translate his game to a team with multiple scoring options. He'd be just as bad on this team.

How would a 1999-2000 Scottie Pippen, Greg Anthony, and Brian Grant fit in with Roy and Aldridge at this point?

Also, Damon was one of the worst finishing point guards in the history of the NBA. He could get the hole, but he couldn't make a layup to save his life.
 
1999-2000 Pippen would be a huge benefit to the team, IMO, especially in the playoffs. He'd be the defacto point guard/forward for the team and provide the veteran leadership that the team is expected to lack in playoff time.

But how about a young Pippen? To fit in with a young core. He'd make them utterly frightening, as the team would have a guy who could run the offense and add another great defender and athletic wing scorer who could get to the hoop, as well as shoot from the perimeter.

Oh definitely, a young Pippen would be fantastic, but I thought we were only talking about former Blazers, so I stuck with Pip when he was actually on the team.

Well, in that case, I'll take Magic Johnson running the point, Michael Jordan at shooting guard, Larry Bird at small forward, Charles Barkley at power forward, and Hakeem at center.
 
Damn.. a '99-00 Pippen would've been great for this squad. I loved it in 2000 when we went with our big lineup of Pip, Smith, Bonzi, Sheed and Sabas.

As for Damon, he was really fun to watch in Toronto. I was excited at the time when we traded for him, but no way can you build around a guy who's 5-9.
 
Damon's early success was predicated on two things: playing on a bad team, and being one of the quickest players in captivity. Once he lost even a fraction of his speed, he became a liability. Being on a play-off team just meant he was exposed even more.

Ballhog, horrible defender, low efficiency /high volume shooter, jealous, pouty little bitch and tattletale.......what's to like?

Batum could fill the areas you highlighted, I just doubt he'll ever have point forward skills. He strikes me as more of a young Eddie Jones type of player.
