It's stupid to trade a player who is as good as he is and has given so much to the city. It makes keeping star players here harder. I don't think you're seeing the forest for the trees. There probably will never be a good reason to trade Dame.

People who say Clyde was overrated have forgotten how good he was.

Dame has come close to matching Clyde's career best 27.2 ppg, but can't touch his career best 7.9 rpg or 8.0 apg and hasn't been, and never will be, remotely close to his career best 2.7 steals per game.

Clyde was a 10-time all star and 5-time all NBA when SG was the deepest position in the league.

Dame has the potential to surpass Clyde, but he will need to continue to play at his current (or even higher) level for several more years to do so.

Clyde has been a bit of a tool since he left Portland, but that doesn't diminish how good he was on the court while he was here.

Disagree. SG was the deepest position in the league during Clyde's prime. Center was the weakest position in the league during Shaq's prime. Sure, early in his career, Hakeem, David Robinson, Ewing, etc. were still around, but by the time Shaq hit his prime those guys were all gone and with Duncan listed as a power forward, there were years when the second team ALL NBA center didn't even average 10 ppg. That was the era of Jamaal Magloire All Star! That's how weak the center position was during Shaq's prime.

Maybe I rubbed off on BG but I too believe Drexler was overrated. He played on a stacked Portland team with a bunch of unselfish, team first players who allowed him to shine. But it can be convincingly argued that Porter (and even Kersey and Williams) carried those teams. For all Clyde's talents he had a tiny heart and folded like a cheap suit under pressure. How many times did he whine about being underpaid? How many times did Portland tear up his contract and give him a new one only to have him whine again a year or two later? He was crying the contract blues when PA traded him because he (PA) had had enough. But PA was classy enough to trade him for hot garbage to his hometown. Clyde then won a ring on Olajuwon's coat tails then pissed all over Portland at HOF time. Fuck Clyde Drexler. Fun to watch with nothing on the line so he'll always be overrated in my opinion. And Dame has already left Clyde in his dust.
