I didn't watch the entire tape so does that mean the Yankees can use his 25M salary next year on something else. Like maybe McCann & Morales.
 
Taking emotion out of it and with not knowing all of the evidence it's hard to insist that there should be a lifetime ban.
 
I doubt a lifetime ban would end up holding up. MLB has been lax as we know in the past so it's hard to go from where they have been to a ban based on what we know. They should of hammered Melky last year after that fake website nonsense for example (at least another 50 games imo). In that context-I'd be very happy with this season and next for Alex. I'm just happy so see MLB going for that and add some style points for shutting down the negotiations after that debacle last night.

...for all intents and purposes, a suspension for the rest of this year and all of next year pretty much ends ARod's career as ball player. We've all seen how self-destructive ARod is and between now and the beginning of the 2015 season he will find a way to did his grave even deeper....especially with the Feds also getting involved. I believe that down the road there may also be criminal charges levied against ARod to the extent that the Yanx may actually be able to get out of the remaining money ARod is still due after next near.
 
Ok what am I missing. I thought he could appeal and play until they hear his appeal no?

Sounds like the plan is for Selig to prevent that by suspending him under the best interests of baseball clause instead of or in addition to the drug policy. That clause prevents him from playing while awaiting for the appeal.
 
I guess in his press conference he just said he is flying to Chicago tomorrow. Good luck with that Arod. I hope he gets a round trip ticket.

He seems content to keep up with the charade until the very end. Looking forward to his press conference post suspension....

I live in South Florida and I believe that they intend to prosecute the clinic, with that said, It will depend on the evidence that the states attorney in Dade County can accumulate toward any player(s). Understand that Dade County (Miami) has always been one of the most politically corruptible areas in the country. Arod is a native son who has donated millions of dollars. What I'm saying it's a home game for Arod.
 
Staying stupid to the end Arod called everyone out and did everything short of kicking Selig right in the balls. He has made it easy on Selig to just lower the hammer and basically tell Arod to go screw himself.

...I'm from Florida too and still own property there and I'm well aware of Florida law...ARod's home town won't get him a free pass here. If his "home boy" status carried any weight at all, the US Attorney's Office would not be looking into it at all.
...The fact that the Feds are getting involved is part of the reason why ARod backed off his stance to fight any suspension. Because if he went to arbitration “He would be under oath in an arbitration, and all the evidence baseball has on him would be available to prosecutors.”


...no "get out of jail free" card for Alex just because he's from South Florida.
 
So, I am still confused. Do we expect him to be playing on Monday in Chicago? If they suspend him 214 games on Monday morning won't he just appeal and they he plays while his appeal is being heard?
 
...Jill, the way I understand it is that if Selig suspends ARod under the "just cause" and "best interest of the game" clause, it would do ARod no good to appeal because in that instance, ARod would not be appealing to an arbiter, but instead, to Selig himself, who has final say under those conditions.

59, that I understand but from what I was reading he doesn't want to piss off the union and use the "just cause" approach so if that is the case then Arod could appeal and play with the team while he was appealing. I don't want to see him playing again because I think it would be a media circus. I am so over all this and Arod is acting like a two year old that won't accept responsibility that he stole Billy's lolipop.
 
As the rednecks say just "Git R Done". We've been hearing that they "hope" to have something accomplished by this day, changed to another day, then by another day. Arod is bad enough now they bring up Cruz and others for "selling out" their teams by accepting the suspensions. Detroit knew Peralta could be gone so they went and got a damn good substitute. Can't feel for those clowns, they knew the rules and "sold out" on their teams when they did what they did. As my old Punk Buddy Stiv Bators once sang "everybody knows you've been caught with the meat in your mouth, now eat it and come back clean.

...yeah, the whole thing is confusing because there have been so many conflicting reports. But the gist of it, as far as I've been able to tell, is that if Selig suspends ARod for this year and next, he runs a lesser chance of having it overturned vs trying to suspend ARod for life...and I think that both MLB and the MLBPA want the mud slinging to subside. And if ARod's and the other players suspensions are handed down now, I think it will tone things down, at least for a while. On the other hand, if Bud tries to suspend ARod for life (which I'd like to see) it could drag on for months/years.
 
This is going to get even more bizarre when Arod shows up in Chicago not invited by the Yankees, and not able to play because of a suspension. I have faith that TMZ will be ready, on-site, with cameras, and I expect them to have some good stuff.

Time will tell, lets just say that like in politics, you never know who sits behind the curtain... With that said, I hate what is being done to the game I have loved all my life.
