Here's a link to the article in the Sports Illustrated magazine I just got...if you have time, it's well worth the time to read it...it's a pretty good write up. I did learn a few things about Judge that I did not know before, one of which was the fact that he wears a size 17 shoe...holy crap.

But in addition to his obvious talent the article also focussed on his character quite a bit which is something that really matters to me when talking about Yankee players. The article also draws parallels to Jeter...the kid is very grounded with a good head on his young shoulders and is very modest and always says the right things, much like Jeter.



...one note; though the Judge write up is pretty good, I was annoyed that SI saw fit to dedicate 10 pages to Tim fucking Tebow, while giving Aaron Judge, the cover boy, only 5 pages.

First time I saw judge I thought of Dave Winfield, big guy, right handed hitter. After seeing him respond in interviews I thought class act, has the "old school" Yankee approach to his game, and down to earth. When I saw him dive into the stands chasing a foul ball I thought it Jeteresque. Ye the Judge is a great addition.

If only he can have the career Big Dave had it will be wonderful. Always felt Winfield had it rough as a Yankee. His arrival with Reggie already here and then his poor WS performance put him behind the eight ball. Not really all his fault as the Yankees blew a 2-0 series lead in 81. Then of course Mattingly came on the scene and became the fan favorite plus the issues he ran into with Steinbrenner. Still remember in 84 when him and Mattingly were battling for the batting title. I'm just not sure if Winfield was ever fully appreciated as a Yankee.

I was a big fan of Winnie, saw that man make some awesome plays in the outfield and plate wise he had a fine career. Always remember those shirts that read: Winfield, Henderson, Mattingly, Paglirulo, who needs pitching. Late season '85 was the last time I saw the Yankees in the Stadium. The Blue Jays were in to play a four game series, Yanks won game 1, then lost 2-4. I attended games 2 & 3, was not impressed with Don Baylor at all. Seeing the kids arrive last August reminds me of those times, todays Yankees can bop but the pitching is shaky in places.

...the line drives that Dave Winfield and Dick Allen hit were the hardest hit baseballs I ever remember seeing.

...if I remember correctly, Winfield was also drafted by the NBA, the ABA, and the NFL.
