Sara Errani battles back to beat Magdalena Rybarikova in Monterrey

Top seed Sara Errani survived a major scare in her Abierto Monterrey Afirme first-round victory against Magdalena Rybarikova.

The world number 17 trailed 4-2 in the deciding set but reeled off four games in a row to prevail 6-1 3-6 6-4 against her Slovakian opponent.

Seeds tumble in Monterrey

Seeds Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Danka Kovinic and Timea Babos all crashed out of the Abierto Monterrey Afirme on a rain-interrupted day.

Russian third seed Pavlyuchenkova was sent packing in the first round by qualifier Pauline Parmentier 6-2 6-2 in Monterrey.

Montenegro's Kovinic - the seventh seed - was upstaged 7-5 6-2 by qualifier Nicole Gibbs.

Eighth seed Babos lost out to Polona Hercog in a 6-3 6-2 defeat.

Johanna Konta and Heather Watson into Monterrey quarterfinals

British pair Johanna Konta and Heather Watson are through to the quarterfinals of the Abierto Monterrey Afirme after straight-sets victories over Yanina Wickmayer and Polona Hercog respectively.

The British No.1 Konta prevailed in two tie-breaks to win 7-6(6), 7-6(4) in just over two hours.

Watson beat her Slovakian opponent, ranked three places higher in the rankings, 6-2, 6-2 in one hour 20 minutes.
