Politics Abortions included in Tennessee ban on non-emergency surgeries amid COVID-19 outbreak

Wasn't that the way it worked with ObamaCare - the *cough* Affordable Healthcare Act?

I already referenced your 2009-10 talking points. I was just wondering how you thought it related today.

Healthy LA teen who died of septic shock and was found to have coronavirus after his death was turned away from urgent care because he didn't have insurance, mayor says
  • Teen died on Tuesday after finally being admitted to a public hospital in the northern Los Angeles neighborhood of Lancaster
  • He was healthy and had no pre-existing conditions before his death
  • The teen was initially taken to an urgent care facility in Lancaster after he started experiencing respiratory issues
  • He was turned away because he didn't have insurance and was told to go to a public hospital instead but went into cardiac arrest en route
  • The teen's positive coronavirus test did not come back until after his death
  • His father, who is an Uber driver, has also since tested positive for coronavirus and is currently sick
  • A 17-year-old from New Orleans also died this week from coronavirus

It’s ok to have that opinion, but in a functioning society we can’t make laws based on what books certain people like to read. Obviously the right answer is laying somewhere in the gray area, but neither hardcore religious people or hardcore liberals are able to see the color gray. It’s gotta be either “throw lady in jail because she got raped and wants an abortion” or “women should be able to abort a 9 month old fetus”

Radicals on either side control the argument and rational people get drowned out.

Ive met or read about 0 people who think aborting a full term/9 month old fetus is ok.

So if someone has a non-viable pregnancy, are they allowed to abort it or is that non-essential and they have to risk passing it on their own?

Pastor Who Claimed Covid-19 ‘Hysteria’ Was Plot Against Trump Dies From Virus

Religious Ignorance Kills: Landon Spradlin, a Virginia pastor who claimed the “mass hysteria” around the coronavirus pandemic was part of a media plot against Trump, has died from the virus.

ABC News reports:

Landon Spradlin’s family never got to say goodbye.

The 66-year-old father and husband from Virginia died due to complications from COVID-19 on Wednesday morning in North Carolina.

While on the way home from a mission trip, Spradlin collapsed and was taken to a hospital in Concord, North Carolina. He was eventually put on a ventilator as his condition worsened.

According to reports, Spradlin, a 66-year-old Christian “musical evangelist,” fell ill while on a missionary trip to New Orleans with his wife.

Friendly Atheist reports Spaldrin went to New Orleans to “wash it from its Sin and debauchery.”

On his Facebook page Spradlin shared a misleading meme attempting to minimize COVID-19, comparing the virus to the swine flu, and suggesting that the response to the coronavirus pandemic was media created “mass hysteria” to damage Trump.

I simply said, let's get Trump elected, then find out. You made comments following that. You figure it out.

Gods plan?

From what I'm finding, it's WAY too expensive. I trust that Trump will be working to continue to find ways to drive prices down. Let's get him elected and find out.
ABM, do you have any data supporting your claim. I'm guessing no.

Well, I know that my family's premiums are very high and that there has to be a better way.

.....Even as the number of people with insurance has soared, costs for some consumers remain an intractable personal challenge and a growing political concern. The law has been a gift and a curse for both parties since 2010, helping propel Republicans into office in the years after its passage, but costing them the House in 2018 after a series of repeal attempts fell short in spectacular fashion.

Now Democrats are again staking their campaigns on health care as they acknowledge the law was not enough. Presidential contenders are split on how far to expand government-run coverage, but stand united in their belief that changes need to happen...........

Elect him again to see him fail another 4 years of campaign promises?

“Everyone will have healthcare”

There's no "now" about it. Even at the time, Democrats knew the law wasn't enough. It was a compromise as a stepping stone to something better in the future. Health care policy is extremely hard to move, you can't get from the US' old system to something like single-payer in one step. Obamacare was flawed policy, but a step in the right direction as more people got coverage and more noxious elements of the private insurance system (like denial based on pre-existing conditions) were addressed.

So, just dump all those poor people who couldn't afford health care before such as my brother-in-law and his wife. And go back to cutting people off from health care because of preexisting conditions. You go doing this and you're going to have an awful lot of pissed off voters. Ban abortions but let people die for lack of health care. Where's that respect for human life?

Lanny, Lanny, Lanny...healthcare will come, but (hopefully) not at the prices we're paying. I think there's a happy medium in there, somehow. That said, I wouldn't trust Joe to try and figure it out.

We've been waiting half a century for a Republican health care proposal.
I'd like to note that Republicans fought Medicare tooth and nail until it was forced on them. Now, it's about the most popular thing the government does.
If Democrats hadn't proposed and forced Obama Care we wouldn't even be having a health care discussion.

we have had almost 4 years and it’s been a big F for Trump on healthcare. I trust that Joe could not do worse

Yeah, but Hillary lost and Trump knows it was a flawed system. That's why he's suing....

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/02/supreme-court-obamacare-case-118643

"He" isn't suing, that's a lawsuit brought by some red states. And it already cost Republicans big in the 2018 elections (as even your article notes) and promises to hurt them again in 2020.

Trump was actually hoping the Supreme Court wouldn't take up the case so soon, because he knows (as has been reported in many places since he was elected) that Obamacare being invalidated with no popular Republican plan in place (which there isn't and has never been) to replace it would be disaster for him and Republicans. He'd rather the case just get tied up in the courts for years. Unfortunately for you, him and Republicans, Obamacare became popular over the years.

I simply said, let's get Trump elected, then find out. You made comments following that. You figure it out.

Trump had his chance to fix health care. After years of talking about it what did he do? He spent his time on a tax cut for corporations. He's playing his supporters as suckers.

enough with lying repugnican bullshit about actually wanting any health care system other than dog eat dog. They've had numerous opportunities to actually come out with plans but somehow never do....

here's the reality: In the industrialized world, the United States has the health care system most open to market forces. A system that sets health care as a privilege while other nations treat it more as a right. And the result is we have, by far, the most expensive health care system in the world

we have a system most open to capitalism and it's expensive as hell. And the GOP's "solutions" are always to open it up to more capitalism. In other words, take us all further down the road of adding more of what we already have the most of. It ain't working now, and going the wrong direction on health care is in the repugnican DNA

So good. Haha

Anti life hypocrites want to take away health care from 20 million people in midst of a pandemic. What happened to the"something wonderful" with which Trump was going to replace ACA on day one? Was it lost in the mail along with the check Mexico sent to pay for the wall?

John McCain says hello.

IMO the problem is our crony capitalism, and I will admit that capitalism can quickly lead to crony capitalism. In a truly capitalistic society the government is supposed to be a referee to ensure fairness of competition, fairness of the marketplace and yes to protect people from those corporations. Unfortunately what we have right now though its like playing the lakers on their homecourt and were all getting fouled but the lawmakers wont call it because they have their hands in the side of the corporation (the Lakers).
Every country has some split of socialism vs capitalism, and varying degrees. I believe we should have options, and health insurance doesn't always equate to healthcare. Probably the closest “socialist” position I come to is healthcare, I don't believe healthcare should be a for profit industry. South Korea for instance has insurance companies that are ran as non-profits. I am not a big government type, I think you give them an inch and they’ll give corporations a 500b bailout to their buddies.

we have had almost 4 years and it’s been a big F for Trump on healthcare. I trust that Joe could not do worse

That's because we're stuck with Obamacare and he's suing to get that ended. Film @ 11.

And everyone wonders how these threads turn to Trump bashing. Too funny.

Entirely speculative. But, again, I'm entirely ready to take the gamble on Trump than anything the Democratic party has to offer at this point. Premiums are heading North and no plan by the left that I know of.

What kind of plan/policy do you like?
