OT Above ground pool

Spent all weekend moving earth and flattening a sloped yard in order to put in an above ground pool. UghA. I work a physical job but that was some serious work with no heavy machinery to help with the task.

We got a Coleman 4ft deep 18 ft wide from Walmart

Any of you have experience or tips about above ground pools that you’d like to share before I find out on my own?

We had one for years. I'd say get a sand filter, first and foremost. The biggest one recommended for your pool. You'll save a TON of money and/or time and/or energy replacing and cleaning disposable filters.

Keep it skimmed, vacuumed and chemically balanced daily. A solar blanket on top is nice for early in the season.

It takes a bit if time to maintain, but they are fun.

We only got rid of ours because our kids were too small and we didn't want the danger in our yard.

Only thing I would have said is not to get the kind with the inflatable ring around the top...backyard wildlife destroys those.

Wow, you really fucked up. 90% of the fun of doing a project like that is renting equipment. They have little backhoes and excavators you can rent for the day. They're like Tonka trucks for adults.

Some of the local rental companies will even drop it off and pick it up for a small extra fee.

Ditto to the above especially checking the PH every day unless you want to wake up to a pool full of green slime.

Curious, you have a baby on the way. Are you sure you want to put a pool in? A pool will add a level of stress and worry to a wonderful life-enriching event that naturally has a lot of stress and worry. Toddlers are ninja-like in their ability to get into shit. Every time you can't find your kid in or around the house your heart will skip a beat and you'll run to look in the pool.

So not to waste all your hard work this weekend, maybe use the area you cleared for a nice firepit or sandbox for your kid.

If the pool is still a must-have, you should have a 6-foot chainlink fence professionally installed around the pool to protect your kid and any other kids who might come into your yard.

Yeah the pool was my wife’s idea. We got a couple years I’d think before we gotta worry about the possibility of the baby climbing up the 4ft ladder and getting in.

Also, we both agreed neighbor kids can’t play in the pool. Too much of a liability. We can already scratch the religious kids who live behind us off the list. As they heard me dropping F bombs during the whole process. Ha

spent two days leveling out the old raised garden, moving the dirt across the property aNd using it to level out the ground for the new raised gardens with this.
made me feel 22 again when i operated for work. This was a toy. Lol.

Sound advice.
Id also consider a solar heater system if the pool is close to the house. Its not like panels and blends in with darker roofs much better.
