Acorn is broke.

The embattled community-organizing group said today that it is closing its doors amid falling revenues.

The development ends a long-running feud between Acorn and congressional Democrats who said the organization was breaking the law by funneling government housing grants awarded to its housing-assistance arm to its legally separate political operations. While the political operation will close, Acorn’s housing unit plans to remain in operation, a spokeswoman for the housing group said.

The big cracks in Acorn came last year when conservative activists posing as a pimp and a prostitute secretly filmed Acorn employees giving them advice on housing, tax evasion and other activities.

That led the House to vote by a wide margin to block federal housing grants from going to Acorn’s housing unit.

Today, Acorn said its ending its political operations. The political arm helped fund voter-registration efforts in key states around the country. Acorn’s work was technically nonpartisan. But Republicans said that Acorn helped Democrats because the newly registered voters were overwhelmingly low income and minorities, two groups that tend to vote for Democratic candidates.

Big deal. They'll open under a new name and continue their "operations". I think I can safely guarantee you when they resurface they will have an open checkbook from the dems.

They've already opened under a new name, or new names.

Yep, this is a red herring. They've split their operations by state and are doing the same crap under scores of different names.
