It has been something of a custom for the Blazers to acquire extra draft picks in the first round, but I think that might be difficult this year because of the depth of the draft. It also seems to be that a lot of the teams in the middle of the first round can get a player who would actually help them, and, not being teams like the Heat who don't need help, will keep their pick. But here are a couple of picks that might be gettable:

#18 Atlanta (because Atlanta has #17. Also because they're rumored to want to make a run at Paul AND Howard, so wouldn't want too many cap holds.) Might be buyable

#19 Cleveland (they already have a top pick. BUT they need a lot of players, so this one might not be gettable)

#30 Phoenix (they also have a much higher pick, and this is usually thought of as the worst pick in the draft, because it's the last pick you have to give a long contract to. I wonder if they'd be interested in Luke Babbitt? He fits their style of play.)

Can't really see any others. Suggestions?

If we traded up from the second round to the mid-first I'd definitely target Shane Larkin.

It'll be interesting if Paul opens up his checkbook.

I'd like to see us trade both our 2nd round picks + cash to see if we could move into the 1st to grab Tony Snell or Hardaway Jr.

That's a joke right? Any team that is dumb enough to pay him the minimum can probably get him on the FA market.

Except he's not a FA. And he does have the potential to be stretch four, particularly if you run and gun without conscience.

I like the way you think. I still think this is a draft where picks 15-30 produce as many productive NBA players as the Lotto.

No. 13 draft pick slotted to make $1,655,300 in year one. Mavs need all the cap room they can get to make room for Howard.

Doesn't really matter in terms of a trade, considering Portland didn't pick up his option.

Would you trade the #10 for Atlanta's 17 and 18? You could get Dieng AND Shane Larkin/Allen Crabbe/Jamaal Franklin/Adetokunbo...

(I would take Dieng at 10, to be honest, because I think he's a safe rotation player who really fills our most glaring need. I like him more than his numbers just because he's smart, an AWESOME team defender, and being African, he's been shielded from bad AAU habits. I also worry that he'll be gone by #17 for exactly those reasons.)

Yes and maybe.

I know the team needs a big guy - but I consider that secondary. We will know more after workouts, but right now I would take Schroeder (spl?) at #10 over any of the big men.

I would listen but it would take more than the #1 and Thompson from them for me to pull the trigger.
If the deal were to be made on a handshake, where they picked the player for us and the trade was consummated after the draft, then they could also include next year's lotto pick right? I'm still not sure if I'd do that, but I think that's what it'd take for me to be interested.

How much does our Greek cost in terms of cap room? Wasn't Dallas one of the teams that was interested in Kostas Papanikolaou? If we obtained 13, and included it with 10, could we get #4. Would MJ bite?

2nd round picks don't have any cap hold, so it'd be the same as a roster spot hold of 490,000 or so.

I think its possible.

If not we could try to trade one for a future 1st to give us more flexibility since we owe one to Charlotte which hinders us adding picks to trade

Why are you so keen to offload one of the best young players in Europe?

I'm wondering how badly dallas wants capspace. If we gave them our secounds for there lotto pick and someone who doesn't have a large salary they want to get ride of.
If that happens I like the idea of calling up phx giving them 10/13/our greek for gortat and 5 and whatever bad contracts they want to stick us with. I'd only make that if one of the two SGs is there at 5.

So do teams in a position to get him.

I don't doubt it.

But there is always a price. And quite frankly I am not sure Olapido fits in with mKG and Kemba. Three exciting athletes, but one should excel in outside shooting. They would be great in the open court, but not so sure in a half court game. But i do think he would fit in well with Lillard and Batum.

Bill Simmons: Triston Thompson and the #1 pick for LaMarcus?

I've been on the trade LMA bandwagon for a few years now but I wouldn't touch this deal.
