Who would you take if you had the #1? I'd hope like hell that somebody else was really in love with Noel - Charlotte, perhaps.

Bill Simmons: Triston Thompson and the #1 pick for LaMarcus?
I've been on the trade LMA bandwagon for a few years now but I wouldn't touch this deal.

Agreed that this is unappealing. Thompson is a good rebounder, but you loose out on everything else at the PF position. And, I'm not yet convinced that a 6'11" 206 lbs shot blocker is what this team needs.
If you are going to trade Aldridge, I would rather it be one younger prospect with a very high ceiling. Then as you are rebuilding (again) you can fill in the gaps. Too bad Dallas doesn't have any players we would want.

I'm on the trade LMA bandwagon too and that is a little sparse, but what if it were more along the lines of LMA for #1, #19, Thompson and ... Waiters (to be immediatly traded or make this deal a 3way) to Charlotte or Phoenix for the #4/5 contigent upon Oladipo being there? So take Noel, plus Oladipo/Thompson/whomever at 19, that's not a bad haul, ship out Matthews for a first next year and we get a ton of cap room this year (or next) and have a really young athletic team to develop.
Being "not as good next year" is a lot better than being "about the same as, or maybe a little better than, last year".
Also consider the amount of cap room we"d have.Either use it or hold onto it for the great FA class next year
Ooh--I've got it! LA to cleveland; 1 and Zeller to Phoenix; 5, 19, 30, Thompson, and Gortat to Portland.
Thoughts?
(I would take Dieng at 10, to be honest, because I think he's a safe rotation player who really fills our most glaring need. I like him more than his numbers just because he's smart, an AWESOME team defender, and being African, he's been shielded from bad AAU habits. I also worry that he'll be gone by #17 for exactly those reasons.)
Dieng looking like much more than a "safe rotation player" right now.
Also, check out his overall stats: leading the world cup in Efficiency.
