I would absolutely love this. Screw all this tradition bullshit-- the NBA season is way too long with only one championship series at the end of it. Tie this midseason thing to the draft or incentives in FA and teams will actually try. Glad Silver is doing what he can to boost revenue and not be stick with old times.

Silver is looking at the English Premier League as his example, but the huge problem is that Soccer only plays 38 league games and depending on what cups they play in and how far a team advances a team can play around 50-60 games. All the cup games teams play in are also spread throughout the season where they might take a weekend off for cup games or play cup games during the week as most league games are played on the weekend. I don't see anyway a midseason tournament can work as a lot of games would have to be condensed into a small window and if they decided to do this, would they also eliminate the all star weekend? Players already face greater risk of injury with the 82 game season and the last thing I would want to see from our team is a player to get hurt in a tournament/ cup game and miss many games in the season because of it.

I agree, I just don't see how it would contribute to the season. Silver is just looking at ways to maximize profit opportunities and put his signature on the league.

The games could be part of the yearly 82.

What does it actually accomplish?
Its like college playoffs anymore you play a whole season to see who come out on top, then have a playoff to determine who wins the league? All revenue generated.

The all star game is a joke. This remedies that.

February to April is a snorefest for more than half the teams in the league. How many games did we play against mostly GLeague rosters?

All revenue generated.
This is a good thing. Would allow teams to pay their players and increase capspace, etc.

I'd rather see them make the summer league and development of the 10-15 players mean more. The grind of the regular season doesn't need to be added to. Soccer can get away with this kinda' thing.

So you want the players to have a mid season soccer tourney?

James Harden flops like a soccer player.

Well if they are taking away games from regular season, they have to find other means to generate revenue for the teams from all the lost ticket sales. I just don’t see it happening without the biggest overall the league has seen.

NFL has 16 games and more revenue than the NBA.

Cutting down from 82 games can increase revenue if it's done right.

See how intense NBA playoff games are? If we had regular season games like that, got rid of back to backs, added midseason tournament, had play in games for seeds 7-12, had some games count as 2 wins/losses, it could make the game way more interesting.

Get rid of multiple foul shots, so one shot for 1/2/3 points. Clear path changed to intentional foul to prevent fast break. Kicking legs on 3pt is offensive foul. Less time outs but advertising during play. More bench guys play extended minutes.

It's a great game but it needs some improvement, just hope it's done well.

In theory this is a great idea but it is not practical unless it's held like in July to give players a short rest but in season this idea is STUPID and will cause more injuries then ever. I thought if the Blazers has an extra 2 or 3 days between Denver and Warriors series they might have had a slightly better chance cause i think the playoffs could be spread out a tad more and the Blazers came into that series dead tired.

If they replace the all star game with a mini-tourney, I'll listen.

What if the 82 game season were divided into two 42 game seasons.

Play 42 games to determine one-half of the playoff teams, and preliminary seeding.

Short vacation to get healthy.

Teams start the second season 0-0.

Teams that didn't qualify for the playoffs in the first season get a do-over to fill the remaining spots. Teams that did qualify can strengthen, or weaken, their preliminary seeding (keeps them playing for something).

Just spit balling. I have no idea how to make it work.

Flame away.

I really like this, although the injury risks to young players escalates. I think it could be a good way for older players to show they can still play too (and maybe earn a contract?).

This is literally how the Hillsboro hops league does it lol

Man, a 1 and done tourney going into the all star break would be awesome. I could also see centering it around Christmas, though not sure how you'd get 4 games on the 25th and wrap up before the bowl games.

The all star game is a joke. Want my take?

Get rid of the all stars all together and only have all nba.

So for all star weekend, because the league still needs a break, last years all nba 3rd team would play the 2nd team on Saturday day, then have your skills and slam dunk contest follow.
Then on Sunday afternoon/evening you open with the 3pt contest, and then the winner of the first all nba game plays the 1st all nba team.

I would put on my calendar every year that I'm busy this weekend if they did that.
