Huge loss.

I might put the Cardinals in 2nd place behind Seattle now

No Aldon
No Bowman

3 NFC championship games, 1 SB appearance... and nothing to show for it

:ghoti:

Not true.

We have haterz.

Haterz only hate the best. Huge sigh of relief for you, no doubt.

On January 28, 2012, Aldon Smith was arrested for driving under the influence in Miami Beach, Florida.[16][17]

On June 30, 2012, Smith was believed to have suffered stab wounds when attempting to break up a fight at a party at his residence. Two other people were shot in the incident.[18] On October 9, 2013, Smith was charged with "three felony counts of illegal possession of an assault weapon" relating to the stabbing incident. The charges were later reduced to misdemeanors.[19]

On September 20, 2013, Smith was involved in a single vehicle accident in San Jose, California. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of marijuana. After the loss to the Indianapolis Colts in the third week of the football season, he voluntarily entered a rehabilitation facility, to be put onto the non-football injury list with an indefinite leave of absence.[20]

On April 13, 2014, Smith was detained and arrested following an incident at the Los Angeles International Airport in which Smith became belligerent and uncooperative with a TSA agent, who alleged Smith claimed he was carrying a bomb. After interviews revealed that Smith did not clearly state he was carrying a bomb, the Los Angeles City Attorney decided to drop the charges

Aldon missed a ton of last season as well. No big deal.

Didn't he only miss 3-4 games? The guy still put up 9 sacks I believe. It's a pretty big loss to the Niners, their secondary needs as much help as they can get from the pass rush.

5 games last year. Losing one of the best pass rushers in the league for around half a season is always going to be a big loss, but the 49ers are pretty well set up to handle the loss. The two OLB who replaced him last year (Skuta and Lemonier) did a good job and Lemonier was a rookie, who should be even better this year. They also have Aaron Lynch, who was an upside pick in this draft and he's been a monster in the preseason, though obviously against backups. But he gives them some more possible upside off the edge.

The 49ers mostly need to weather the first 9 games of the season. The only games that they should be underdogs in, with Smith and Bowman out, among the first nine are against Denver and New Orleans (both on the road). If they can keep their losses to 2, they'll have a great chance in the second half with Smith and Bowman back. But if the 49ers start dropping "landmine" games to inconsistent teams like Dallas, Chicago or Philadelphia, the wheels could come off for them.

I didn't know you were so concerned about the Niners. They appreciate your concern.

As I said earlier, haterz only hate their competitors. The C-awks are praying for Niners failure. Their "smart" fans know they have no chance otherwise.

Its a big loss but i'm not sure how big of a loss. A good test will be how good their Pass Rush is against the Cowboys who look to have one hell of a good offensive line this year. Personally I want to see how the 49er's offense looks with a healthy Crabtree and some more down field threats more then I want to see if there D is either above average or Elite.

Jesus.

Oh man... every single reply is just annoying as hell. They flipped out because Schefter said "bad timing."

Get over it people! He was simply saying that it was bad timing for the Niners on the heels of the Aldon Smith thing, and it was really bad timing for McDonald because of the new rules that were just released. I really hate our country sometimes.
