Aldridge possibly out for an extended time

Just curious, where do you have to be to qualify for the injury exception?

If the player is certain to be out the rest of the season. But they're reviewed and allowed/denied on a case by case basis.

I remember when Grant Hill was going through his severe injuries with the Magic way back that the league gave the Magic all kinds of trouble trying to get the exception. On the other hand, the Blazers got one pretty easily for Oden in 2010.
