I tweeted

@magnifier661: @aldridge_12 @Steeeeve15 can you ask Aldridge has he worked on the low block? Will we see laMonster next season?

His response:

@Steeeeve15: @magnifier661 yes he have, you're going to see left block and right block work.

And he's been tweeting that he's excited about next season. Not really a player that wants out if you ask me.

Pardon my ignorance, but who's this steve guy?

Terry Stotts is pissed

The moment LA gives up a wide open 18f to go into the low post Stotts will sit him for Leonard who will shoot that 18f!

Recall that the LaMonster stretch was when Portland had a decent high post Big in Camby. While LA may be working on his low block game, Portland's recent Bigs additions don't play on the high post so like last year he'll have lots of company if he tries to set up down low this year. To see LA down low more we probably need to see Meyers and/or Freeland's overall game take a giant step forward as they both have the mid-range shots to play high post

Meyers can hit an open jumper.

I agree that Camby was essential for the high post; but eventually teams were able to cut it off. The amount of outside shooting will be the true positive for getting the ball in the low block. Aldridge will have way more room to operate too because the shooters are deadly. I have a feeling Aldridge's assist numbers will increase next season.

Blazers coach Terry Stotts says he has been in contact with LaMarcus Aldridge this summer and received no indication of unhappiness.

Reading this made me more mad than I've been in a long time!

LaMarcus working on his low post moves and becoming a back-to-the-basket bruiser? I'll believe it when I see it.

This isn't news to anyone here, but:

No player in the NBA shoots more midrange shots than LaMarcus Aldridge. The guy is in love with 2-point jumpers. As a result, he led the league in scoring around the left elbow, which is a testament more to his volume than his efficiency. Aldridge hits these shots at a rate that is only slightly above the league average. As he matures, it will be interesting to see if his efficiency improves; if it does he will become both a very effective scorer and an important spacing agent for his teammates.

Here's the efficiency since 2006 on 10- to 22-foot jumpers
2006-07: 36% on 235 shots
2007-08: 42.0% on 603 shots
2008-09: 42.0% on 640 shots
2009-10: 41.9% on 601 shots
2010-11: 42.1% on 546 shots
2011-12: 42.3% on 485 shots
2012-13: 42.8% on 760 shots

I'm not sure the efficiency is going up much. Unless he takes a couple of steps in or a couple of steps out, he is who we thought he was.

An All-Star/All-NBA type PF who demands attention on offense and helps space the floor. Nothing wrong with that, IMO.

not at all. I was responding to the conjecture that "as he matures, his efficiency might go up."

Would he not demand attention and space the floor more if he backed up a step?

Yes he would. The three point shot is a back breaker. But I think he would just break more backs forcing teams to double him down low.

2 things I wanna see next season.

1.) half his shot attempts are 10ft in from the basket

2.) get to the line more.

He'd also demand more attention from the block, too, and late last year had some games where he was dominant in the low post.

Even 5 more post-ups a game would help.

you will get no argument from me that he should post up more. I think I posted last year about how otherworldly his stats were when even 50% of his shots were inside 10 feet. But it didn't happen often.

I was just pointing out that letting him continue shooting 750 10-22 ft jumpers a year, hoping that his efficiency will increase, isn't a good plan, since he's been at 42.3 +/- 0.5% for the last 6 years. Taking 150 of those (he shot 250 19-22ft jumpers last year) out to the 3pt line and 250 of those to the low post would put him in the efficiency stratosphere

I think he found his comfort zone last season. I agree we need an inside presence, but I do not think LA will be that on a consistent basis.

I definitely agree if he's gonna shoot the perimeter shot; then take a step back and hit that tre. I just hope he doesn't.
