Aldridge working on the low block

you will get no argument from me that he should post up more. I think I posted last year about how otherworldly his stats were when even 50% of his shots were inside 10 feet. But it didn't happen often.

I was just pointing out that letting him continue shooting 750 10-22 ft jumpers a year, hoping that his efficiency will increase, isn't a good plan, since he's been at 42.3 +/- 0.5% for the last 6 years. Taking 150 of those (he shot 250 19-22ft jumpers last year) out to the 3pt line and 250 of those to the low post would put him in the efficiency stratosphere
I'm in agreement. My opinion of LMA is pretty well documented. With that said, I do believe that he greatly improved on his elbow jumper this past season. But his "bread & butter" 18-footer pick-n-pop, from the top-left of the key has always been average. He shouldn't shoot that more than 2-3 times a game...and never in the 4th quarter, and it'd be far more beneficial if he stepped back to the 3-line for those pick-n-pops. If he's gonna be a softie he might as well try for an extra point.

Meyers can hit an open jumper.

right, thats why I said he has the mid-range shot to play on the high post. The problem with him getting PT isn't his jumper

I agree that Camby was essential for the high post; but eventually teams were able to cut it off. The amount of outside shooting will be the true positive for getting the ball in the low block. Aldridge will have way more room to operate too because the shooters are deadly.

When LA sets up on the low block he's going to have to defeat a double team as every team would rather dare Robinson or Lopez to beat them from the top of the key. They aren't decent (let alone deadly) perimeter shooters and therefore aren't effective as high post options to draw the man guarding them out of the paint. While LA is Portland's best low post option, he's pretty much their only decent high post option which is why he'll continue staying up top

If a defenders begin to routinely help off Robinson or Lopez to double LMA, I would hope he develops the awareness and ability to hit them with a solid Camby-esque alley-oop pass. Robinson certainly has the athleticism to make that a relatively easy play if left open.

sounds good to me though you don't see teams double much out on the perimeter or high post... you aren't suggesting that both Bigs should be setting up on the low block right? Their Bigs additions are definite upgrades, just saying I don't expect to see LA on the low block much unless Meyers and/or Freeland improve and earn real PT.
