8. Portland Trail Blazers – 2.70-Mike Barrett (play by play)
-Mike Rice (analyst)

Most popular grade: A (45.93% of voters)

Analysis: A lot of As — the third-highest raw total — for this unabashed homerific crew. Barrett and Rice, to their credit, work in top notch word play and funny anecdotes whenever possible. Blazers fans, known to poo-poo how little national media attention their team gets, showed up for their guys — good for them.

Reader comments: “I have always enjoyed the banter between Mike Barrett and Mike Rice. They have great energy together. It probably helps that they have worked with each other for a while too! They will crack jokes occasionally and i don’t mind when broadcasters do that because it means that they are comfortable working together.” – CUbsfan

Wow--didn't realize Alaa Abdelnaby was doing color for the Sixers. Looks like their fans don't like him much.

Overrated as hell, man. Miami criminally underrated.

Ugh, the Celtics homers at 20. They should have been much lower.

Having purchased the NBA league pass every year it has been available. and forced to listen to all of these broadcasters, I think the vote was pretty accurate. Especially the bottom 5. (All horrible)

I have noticed that the worse the team is, the better the crew seems to be. For example the Clippers announcers were much more entertaining (and less annoying) when the Clippers sucked.

18. San Antonio Spurs – 2.21
-Bill Land (play by play)
-Sean Elliott (analyst)

Most popular grade: A (34.64% of voters)

Analysis: Nobody loves watching the Spurs more than me, but with that said, I couldn’t be more perplexed by them pulling As from more than one-third of the vote. Elliott is the biggest homer in any booth in the league, referring to what “we should do out of the timeout,” and so on. The Spurs crew rages against every call, every referee, every opponent: it’s unbearable.
Haha. There's something about Texas and OKC ignorance and homerism. As evidenced by how the fans act at games. It baffles me that Spurs fans have to be led by the hand by so much piped in noise and direction from the production crew.

Lawler is a legend, with a delivery from a different era. I can listen to him any day, and remember Schonley.

I still like him, but just not as much as before. It's really hard to like anything about the Clippers these days. Maybe I am letting my irritation with their team influence my opinion. That and the fact I live in LA and listen to them more than most of the others.

Haha, now this is funny:

Analysis: The Hawks crew is so unapologetically pro-Atlanta that the broadcast doubles as insult comedy. Nique, a basketball legend with enough cache to say whatever he wants, will routinely belittle opposing players when they screw up. Rathbun is his toady, but he possesses the broadcasting chops to get things back on track when they, you know, want to get back to the game.

Reader comments: “It hurts, but the Hawks’ broadcast is the worst in the division. This is solely because of Wilkins. Danny Ferry tried and failed to get Nique out of the broadcast chair. That may have been his biggest disappointment as a GM, Luol Deng be damned. This sums it up perfectly. Same tired lines every game. For being one of the best dunkers in NBA history, he never catches any of the lobs that Bob throws his way. Rathbun has his homerific moments but he’s a fair pbp guy.” – Drunckle

Bin-GO!!!

It was awesome when it was Lawler and Bill Walton.

Yeah, Houston and OKC are the worst for sure. Houston because they are just fucking idiot homers and OKC because they dumb down the analysis because Thunder fans don't know shit about basketball.

Mike Smith brings the announce team down, he makes kind of outlandish statements, but his bball knowledge is pretty good actually.

Personally I think Miami is the worst and Utah is the best

I have this fear that, right when Blazers games finally become available to non-Comcast subscribers, Rice will retire and be replaced by Antonio Harvey. [Shudder] I will kill my TV if that happens.
Ugh that'd be rough.... I wonder if there's another ex-Blazer that'd be interested. Fuck it, Roy ain't doing anything lol try him out for summer league when that day comes.

well, on the bright side, CJ will have retired by then, and fresh off of 3 titles in 10 years, fans will love hearing him on TV instead of Wild Rice!

One more reason that we can't trade CJ--need to make sure he ends up a part of our broadcast team and not some other team's.

Can you imagine if the Blazers sign another 10 year deal with comcast, and they still pull this shit where it's not on Dish or Direct?

20 years of no basketball on dish or direct...might as well kill off those fans.

I hope they go to ROOT or something. If not, do a streaming service and charge for the season.

The NBA has to realie that is the way to do things anow. I'd gladly pay that for online streaming (as long as it's consistent).

Haha, Houston announcers were voted the worst. I couldn't agree more.

every fuckin time i hear them say "The Harden Way" i just wanna punch someone. annnnnnnnnnd they say it about a bazillion times a game.
