Lamarcus is a better all around player. Period. Watch the Nets play and tell me Lamarcus isn’t a better defender. It’s in nbatv right now

No. He's not. Maybe he was at one point, but he's not now.

He's trash on defense. He's not a passer. He's not a good shooter. He's a horrible rebounder for his size. Here are his numbers in San Antonio.

13.7 ppg off 46% from the field and 36% from three. 4.5 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.9 blocks in 26 minutes per game.

What exactly do you think LMA does well at this point in his career that Kanter doesn't do? He's a piss poor defender, so it's a wash in that department. He doesn't shoot a lot of threes, so all you're getting is long range twos. I'd rather have Kanter shooting 60% from up close. Kanter rebounds better. Their passing is a wash.
Can’t believe this had to be said.

LMA is going to be an absolute target in the playoffs.

He has led legs and the p&r will neutralize him. I think he’ll be unplayable.
He’s prob not going to play in the playoffs. Claxton should get all those minutes.

through 4 games:
13 pts
50% shooting
1 3 a game
5 boards
2 blks

blocking shots and hitting 3s? Man that’d be nice

Hell of a career. Guess he won’t be signing this off-season.

Someone already brought up the question as to whether Portland might sign him to a 10-day contract next year and have him retire as a Blazer.

Or he simply retires as a Net and gets a ring at the end of the year.

Fuck that.

He chose his path, he wanted to play "close to home" and so he did. Let him retire as a "hometown boy".

He isn't dead and this isn't cutting his career massively short. The guy is on the way out. If it wasn't this, it would be a knee or his back or his feet or something else. Players retire. He's not really young at this point.

This isn't sad. I'm glad he's not going to help them win the title.

Unfortunate. Glad he will now prioritize family and I hope he lives a full and healthy life.

I’m not one for suggesting Portland retire his number, etc.

He left. And the way he left hurt the franchise. Let the Spurs retire his number...or the Nets....

He should have stayed - oh well.

LaMarcus Aldridge put up some of the best numbers in our franchise's history and I hope he has a great retirement but the idea that he would be the best Blazers player of all time was laughable when he said it. I credit him with contributing to winning and putting up some great numbers while doing it. I'm glad he got to have a career as long as he did. When he was diagnosed with his heart issues during his rookie year I worried that it would cut his career short but obviously he had longevity. Fourteen plus NBA seasons is a great run.

With his retirement maybe some of us that still do can stop thinking about what might have been if Oden, Roy and Aldridge would have been able to play together, healthy, for an extended period of time. He outlasted them both. He played the fifth most games of all time for our team. He is the franchise's all time leading rebounder and likely will be for quite some time. We all wished that he was a guy with a different attitude to go with all of his gifts and skills but he was our guy for a good period of time.

I wished he'd left us under different circumstances... this isn't just an opportunity to get in a dig on Neil but it's still inexcusable to lose a player after nine seasons and third in a row as an all star for nothing. Letting LaMarcus walk at the height of his career, averaging 23 and 10 while showing off his three point range for the first time, without a mid-season trade for some value is terrible. I don't blame LaMarcus, that was his decision... just like it was his decision to not give the team any guarantees that he was staying. I never disliked Aldridge for any of his perceived shortcomings for our team and again I'm both appreciative for his contributions to the organization and hope he has a great post playing life.

All class. That's what we've got with Dame. Do I agree that we should retire LaMarcus's number? I don't think I do but that's Dame. Undying loyalty and while some of you can look at it as a flaw, if he is surrounded by the right people (Coaching, GM and players) it's an unbelievable strength.

Gah I don't know about retiring the number. Did he do enough?

Honestly, if you put LMAs number up there you gotta put Roy up there. Roy did more for this franchise in many levels than LMA ever did. Lma helped on the court a lot... but Roy changed the entire culture.

Back in 2007, LaMarcus Aldridge, then with the Portland Trailblazers, was experiencing dizziness during a game against the LA Clippers at the Rose Garden on March 31, 2007. After undergoing a series of tests at Providence St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Portland, Aldridge was diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (WPW). Shortly thereafter, he underwent a successful procedure addressing the issue by Dr. Daniel Oseran, which caused Aldridge to miss the final nine games of the season. Then in 2011, Aldridge suffered a recurrence, causing him to miss an additional ten days. If you’re wondering what the heck WPW is, keep reading.

Absolutely not.

I wouldn't retire Roy or Aldridge.

Roy was just here too short of a time, Aldridge left us high and dry to greener pastures when we could have been competing in Dame's prime.

I'd retire Jerome Kersey before either of them.
