You're arguing over the semantics of what they're called, but that's not really up to you. Nobody calls themselves of Israelite descent. The term "Jew" or "Jewish" has been around for a long time, and I'm not sure how you can make the argument that there isn't an ethnicity tied to that term.

Bodyman, I am well aware there are religious hypocrites and the Catholic Church hardly has a monopoly - yes, it was fiction, but who can forget the final scene in The Godfather when Michael Corleone in church promises to "renounce the devil" while a dozen or so people are being killed on his orders. OTOH, I don't recall seeing any articles about, say, the Gambinos that referred to them as "devout Catholics" but every story on Ms. Gingrich feels it necessary to say that about her - despite her very obvious disregard.
